good afternoon.

John goes back tomorrow not a moment too soon blankstare

I have spent the morning conducting a little test.

I went to our local Kroger to grocery shop but I took a notebook and made a list of everything we purchase regularly and the price.

DS1 and I then went to lunch to chill for a minute.

Then I took the list and headed to WalMart to add their prices in red to my list.

With the exception of maybe 3 items everything was cheaper at WalMart - somethings as much as $2.

I've been feeling so guilty reading everyone's coupon success and wondering if I'm failing my family by not being more aggressive with it so this is where I decided to start.

This Kroger will double up to .50 so there are some deals to be had but to get them is going to cost me time researching, etc. so I'm beginning to feel a little more comfortable in my decision to shop at WalMart, price comp when I can and use coupons that I have on had.

shew - that's a lot of info I know but I've been a busy girl this morning smile

kris that is how things are here as well.  and we have a schnuck's but evansville schnuck's do not double coupons.

so i shop at aldi's and walmart and just suck it up that i will never get the good deals unless i move somewhere else.

I feel so much better about my decision after thoroughly looking at both stores.  I know I'm getting the best deals possible at WalMart.  If I see something in the Kroger ad I can make a special trip but changing my "regular" store to Kroger just so they will double a few coupons is not a smart move and now I'm not just assuming that is the case I know that is the case.

Wow, Kris, that is quite a job! I did that once, back when I was comparing Woodmans and Aldi. I must have looked crazy while doing it, but it made me feel better about sticking with Aldi.

Sara, I live near a store that doubles coupons (up to $1), but it still so expensive that I can't beat Aldi.

I think Aldi is my favorite store. It's such a nice feeling to fill 4-5 bags with food for two weeks, and walk out spending less than $100. And they have really upped the quality of their meat and produce, so I buy that there now.

I should locate a bumper sticker that says "I heart Aldi."

there is not really anything there that we have bought that we do not like as well as namebrand. and you cannot beat the line, since you are always in and out quickly. or at least around here.

The only thing we don't like as much is the peanut butter (I'm really stuck on Jiff). I actually took advantage of the double back guarantee with the PB.

And it goes SO fast. However, I am uber organized when putting things in the cart, so that when I unload onto the belt, all the heavy stuff goes first. One time I was sloppy, and I ended up with a huge can of crushed tomatoes squishing a box of cereal.

I also like Trader Joe's. Did you know that Aldi actually owns TJ's? It's a pretty similar style (not many name brands). I watched a special about Aldi. They are a massive global entitiy, and have tremendous buying power, which is how they can demand such high quality and low prices from their suppliers.

Any word back yet? How are you feeling overall? I'm so excited by all of the babies coming our way this year!

so glad to see the levels up sara!

and you guys almost have me convinced to try Aldi.  I have a fear of that store for some reason.  I have an overall fear of generic products as a whole -  I will get some WalMart brand (like their salsa which is awesome) but as a rule I never buy generic.  I think I have a phobia or something!

I'm thinking of taking my blog to another level this year.

Nervous.  Not sure about doing it.

I mean just balls out this is how I feel about X topic.

I always try to stay so neutral on all topics and for me to consider just flat out stating my opinion on certain things makes me uber nervous.

I have a little headache. I think it's stress. I just realized i'm a little short for rent. Yes it's probably my fault but that doesn't help me get the rest together in 2 days LOL. Oh well it will work out it always does. I have got to, got to, got to make a budget like now and STICK to it!

I'm so glad tomorrow is my Friday. I'm kind of sick of work, these days have dragged by more so then usual it seems.

everyone seems better.

DS1 never got sick.

My stomach still feels a bit queasy and Jake hasn't been eating much saying his stomach hurts but he hasn't gotten sick since Saturday.  It was only vomitting - no fever or any other symptom.  I'm glad it's gone!!!

thanks for asking heart.gif

I am so glad! That is the worst sickness. Bummer that it's still lingering a bit but hopefully it will be all gone soon! Lucky DS1! I'm never that lucky LOL!

Thanks Kris. It's just been rough since the kids got so sick at the end of October, I put WAY more out then I have in a long time for the copays and medicine costs with all their sicknesses. They are just now finally completely healthy at least for the moment. It was one thing after another with both of them and it probably cost me close to $600 outside of insurance. Things should hopefully settle down this month.
