it actually makes me sad knowing this might be Bryce's last year to believe since I was told by a friend in 2nd grade which he will be in next year. I could not imagine trying to tell any of my kids he is not real at a young age.
Do not be sad. I can tell you from working in a school that no matter what the age they really want to believe. They often pretend they believe because they do not want to know the truth that Santa is not real.
There was a kid in 4th grade last year that told the class that Santa was stupid and not real. Well, those kids all knew he was not real, but they all said he was and that kid will not get anything if he does not believe. It is so adorable to see 4th grade kids still thinking that way.
how sweet.
his class has got a shelf elf and they read the book he has been so excited to come home and tell me about it each day. santa is going to leave a shelf elf here on christmas morning so that he can come visit us next year around christmas.
I don't plan on telling them until they figure it out on their own. If there comes a day when they do what K did, I'll just try and explain the difference to them without telling them Santa isn't real.
Stephen never believed in santa which was fine with me. I remember not getting anything for christmas and wondering why santa didn't bring me anything. My older sister told me he wasn't real and that it was up to our parents to provide christmas. Knowing that made me feel better.
Raven believes. She is in love with christmas. Not just gifts but everything that goes along with it(except the religious parts). I willing to follow her lead but I can only go so far. I can't tell her he is real if she ask.

Just being curious. Why can you not say he is real? You are Santa to her and you are very real.

We have talked about santa-like people but if she ask if santa(the one flying all around the world in one night) is real I will say no. I was never good at playing pretend.LOL

I know what you mean. (I was good at playing pretend though! : )) If they flat out ask me if he's real, I don't think I will lie to them.
We don't really even talk about Santa much. They hear about him from friends, shows, etc. They did want to sit on his lap the other day at the mall, so I figured, "Why not?" Ummmm, still waiting in line an hour and a half later, I was like, "WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!" It was brutal!! haha
It was funny, though---Addie goes, "Well, this isn't the real Santa. This is one of his helpers." I was like, "Oh, okay. Where did you hear that?" She said she just knew that. Okay, that's cool. Mostly I just take their lead with the Santa thing.
Tracy----I know how you feel. If they started equating Santa with God, we'd stop that for sure. I think Emilia did make a comment about what Jesus was bringing for Christmas! haha (I can totally see how they can get things mixed up a little bit....I mean, we pray to Jesus and thank Him and ask Him for things (health, blessings, etc.), and now at Christmas, we're celebrating Jesus' birthday and asking Santa for things. I am sure it's pretty confusing for 3 and 4 year olds!)
i have told you guys this before - but my mom told me that santa died of a heart attack at age 6. LMFAO. and that the easter bunny and tooth fairy were in a car accident. it was totally ok - i wasnt traumatized. i more felt silly for ever having believed (i never TRULY believed anyway). it was fine - my mom was just really spicey in that way.
I love the idea of a santa...it is such a magical time and one of my favorite memories as a chiild is my mom singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". I don't know if I will ever actually tell Ivy Santa is not real, I will most likely, explain where the tradition comes from, etc.

Whoa. I didn't know that.
That's a therapist's wet dream. LOL!
lol. i know. my mom is a piece of work. i love how she "broke the news." my mom kills me. it's totally OK though, being the third child and all - i sorta knew all along. my sister is 11 yrs older than me. there's not a huge chance i was going to *really* believe.
