I need to shave. Badly. I must go take a shower and do that.

I just talked to my SIL and found out that her parents might be coming in for Christmas. I do not want to host them for Christmas dinner!!!!!!!! I am crossing my fingers they end up not coming because otherwise, I will have to tell her I don't want to have them. And I know my parents would stay home if her parents come. Oy vey. The drama.

christmas eve - well, its the big french celebration evening.

mass at 7pm.

champagne popped at 8pm.

sit down to a huge traditional french meal.

sometime during that  time the kids open their christmas jammies and change.

dinner over around 10-10:30pm.

kids go to bed.

i bring out the presents from santa.

we are all usually so drunk from dinner we pretty much zonk out immediately.

bertrand actually passed out under the tree last year - dead asleep - too funny!  i have pics of that in my facebook xmas album names christmas 2008.

We have a similar "French" Christmas eve with my mil. She makes snails and onion soup (eww), and brings out like a zillion platters of cookies that she spends the entire month making. She has also made raclette, which I love, mostly  for the benefit of the non-family and grandkids that don't do snails and hate onions (ok, mostly me!)

We open presents (which includes their Christmas jammies), and then head to mass. They don't get to change until after church (which usually ends around 1 AM). This year, of course, our drive home is 2 hours instead of 30 minutes, which is a bummer, but the kids usually snooze the whole way anyway.

Yesterday I had a big Christmas Shopping day. I went into Arundel Mills mall-one of the outlet type malls-to return something to Stride Rite, and get them new tennies, and while I was there, this middle school field trip came in. There were literally 3 bus loads of middle school kids.

I REALLY want my girls to stay little. I am so so so so so not looking forward to that age. I do not care for the middle school age. Yikes. I mean, the girls were running around like idiots, screaming over silly things and all-just like I was when I was that age. IHNI how my parents managed to keep me alive through those years, but they did protect me from being killed by the other parent, lol.

as the happy parent of 11 and 13 year olds, i can  say that you will love them even more than you do now.  funny how that happens!  as they grow up and older you will find wonderful things to cherish about them - promise!

By the time we get them to bed, make sure they are asleep, get all the presents out and ready (and IHNI how I am going to surprise him this year-I mean, I can't really wrap a leather office chair, and it would still be obviously anyway-maybe I will have my mom and dad bring it over that morning or something, IDK), we are exhausted and go to bed.

We don't get home as late as you do, Toni, thank goodness, but it is usually at least 10 or 11, which is SO late for them.

Oh, I also have to make sure that breakfast is ready for the morning-I usually do something make ahead.

I got one of these for DH last year and I had the chair hidden in Faiths closet and snuck out of bed once DH was asleep and put it out with a big bow.

you are BRAVE for doing midnight mass - that as well is berts childhood tradition (and opening all pressies xmas eve - that is NOT happening in my house though!)

luckily, our neighborhood church does a special childrens mass at 7pm - and the 3rd grade class acts out the story of mary and joseph and the birth and all the kids in the church sit on the floor all over the altar to listen to the priest speak.  hilarious with toddlers walking up to the priest and pulling  on his robes even!  the church is super duper packed and i love it (even tho i dont understand a word as its all in luxembourgish LOL)

a 2 hour drive after....that kinda sucks huh?

We used to go to the children's service, but it's actually quite a bit longer and the kids were even more restless! Their actual tradition is to do midnight mass, then come home and open presents-at least we do presents before church now!

And yes, the 2 hour drive super duper sucks, but George really wanted to surprise his mom, so we are going to do it. We were supposed to just stay in Wisc this year, but this would be the first year that we would miss Christmas Eve. This is her most special holiday, so it will mean so much for us to be there.

The key for us is to have all ducks in a row, so that we can just get home and put things out (everything will already be wrapped or assembled).

According to the tracking, my swap partner received the box I sent.  I don't know why but this part always makes me kind of nervous and excited all at once.  Kind of like a first date or something. giggle.gif

itu!  I always always worry if they will like everything.  (ps- if anyone tracks it takes an extra day or two for me to get mail due to the university working like a snails pace to move it form the mail room to our office.)
