Well, we usually don't get home from the in-laws until after 1:00, so by the time gifts are out, we are beat.
That said, the last 5 years or so we have spent at least a half an hour just sitting, watching the Yule Log on TV with no lights but the tree on.
I know, it's super cheesy, and it started the year we were just checking to see if his cousin was joking. But every Christmas Eve, for like 5 hours, the TV just airs this yuke log. We laugh about it every year, and just sit and watch it and veg out a bit before heading to bed.
So today is the first time I'm attempting to hit our local store for double coupon day. They are running a good sale for Kellogg (all Kellogg items are $1.25 when you buy 8 items), and I printed a bunch of $1 off coupons.
I'm hoping to stock up on cereal and crackers. Wish me luck!
On Christmas Eve after E goes to bed we are usually wrapping and running around like crazy to get things done. I am hoping to avoid some of that this year, but at the rate I am going, it's not looking good.
I made a play date commitment for Tuesday so I have to have the house cleaned. I am hoping that it will give me a head start for next week.
Last year we spent hours putting together the train set from hell and wrapping last minute gifts.
This year, everything is wrapped and nothing requires assembly. We will be putting out gifts and hopefully just snuggling in for a movie and eating lots of santa cookies. I will also probably take a little bit to rearrange toys to make room for the new stuff. I like putting some things away as we go, it feels less overwhelming, lol.
With the ridiculous pace of work right now with students in finals, that sounds like heaven.
I will have to remember to do any Christams dinner prep before the kids go to bed so I can enjoy that quiet time.

I am so zonked. I did not go to bed till almost 2 and up at 6:30. Then I have a Christmas party at work today. Can you say I will be drooling by 8 tonight.
Normally Christmas Eve is our most fun packed day. We start off with brunch at Cousins and then go home, veg, nap and get ready for church. Then we head to my parents house and have a big party there. Not sure what time we get home, but usually around 12. We use to go to midnight mass before kids, but now that just does not work.
Then we pass out,lol.
We usually have all wrapping done, but then we set up all the gifts or any toys that are not wrapped. We do the stockings and lay at the end of their bed to let them know Santa was here.
Normally I go to bed LOL. Maybe watch a christmas movie. We may go to the polar express either my birthday or chirstmas eve this year so probably just head to bed after they do.
I'm still in D.C. working. Thankfully there is a wireless internet access here so I have my laptop with me and can surf online during breaks
I have a feeling that this year we'll be frantically wrapping gifts on Christmas Eve. Just a feeling oh and did I mention that DH gets home tomorrow night???
Toni you have me curious about this yule log. What station is it? I think it actually sounds nice and a great way to unwind.
I hope your trip to the store goes exceedingly well. That sounds like an awesome deal!
Our local WGN station runs it. It used to start at midnight, but now it runs from 2:00-8:00 am. Works for us, because we wont' be getting home from midnight mass with the in-laws until about then. So by the time presents are out, we can sit and laugh at how we are watching the Yule Log.
By the time we get them to bed, make sure they are asleep, get all the presents out and ready (and IHNI how I am going to surprise him this year-I mean, I can't really wrap a leather office chair, and it would still be obviously anyway-maybe I will have my mom and dad bring it over that morning or something, IDK), we are exhausted and go to bed.
We don't get home as late as you do, Toni, thank goodness, but it is usually at least 10 or 11, which is SO late for them.
Oh, I also have to make sure that breakfast is ready for the morning-I usually do something make ahead.
Melissa, I am exhausted as well!!! I just laid there last night and could NOT fall asleep-it was so annoying. Finally at 3:30 I was able to get a little rest-and I dreamt that Linda the llama bit my face. ?
Anyway, Kate was in my room waking me up at 6:45 this morning, and I literally started crying when I heard her talk to me. I was just so tired.
My house is a wreck-there are presents stashed everywhere, and the laundry is piling up, and I just can't seem to stay ahead this time of year!!!
I need to take a shower as soon as the girls wake up-I had planned on getting up this morning to do that, but needless to say, it didn't happen, and I had errands to run whilst they were in school.
Anna's pageant is tonight!!! Her line is "E is for east!" It should be interesting. Bill is very annoyed about the time of it because it starts at 6pm, and he has no idea how they expect people to get there for that. I explained to him that most people don't have quite as long a commute, but he still thinks it is ridiculous. I pray he isn't late.
Yesterday I had a big Christmas Shopping day. I went into Arundel Mills mall-one of the outlet type malls-to return something to Stride Rite, and get them new tennies, and while I was there, this middle school field trip came in. There were literally 3 bus loads of middle school kids.
I REALLY want my girls to stay little. I am so so so so so not looking forward to that age. I do not care for the middle school age. Yikes. I mean, the girls were running around like idiots, screaming over silly things and all-just like I was when I was that age. IHNI how my parents managed to keep me alive through those years, but they did protect me from being killed by the other parent, lol.
One of the moms at preschool this morning said she was just getting over food poisoning-and her hubby is out of town-and she has a son who just turned 4, and a set of 2 year old twin girls.
I told her next time something like that comes up, to call me.
Then another mom is having her third baby on Sunday. She has had two vaginals, but her new daughter is breech, so they scheduled a c/s-her due date was Christmas. Interestingly enough, her new daughter will be born on her almost 3 year old daughter's birthday! How funny is that??? Her 3 year old is Kate's BFF. Anyway, she is miserable and busy and stressed and her hubby just got sick. Everytime I see her, she just looks more and more exhausted. And the baby isn't even born yet!!!!
