Oh, and is there somewhere to know all the items covered under a CAT like this one? I know they post some on the boards, but some of it seems to be trial and error.
to your first question, no--i bought something else i needed non-cat to spend atleast $15 so i could use up all 3 cats. i already had $45 presale/after coupons to produce another 3 $5's for under $15--make sense??
the boards like slickdeals and afc typically get a UPC list you can check for specific items that are included.
I've seen those lists, but the lists have pepsi on them, which I am reading don't work here.
Also, I went to shaws, and everything I bought had a red tag (and I read the item) under it saying it was part of the $5 cat deal, but I only got 2 cats and I had used 3. I sent you a message, but I will post here as well, as maybe it can help someone else.
Joyce, I am a total newbie at this, but have been saving a LOT of money. What I am learning is the basics to this is to create a stockpile...this takes time. Then, when your stockpile has been built, you can shop from that for your frozen or non perishables and buy your perishables weekly.
Places I read are
afullcup.com hotcouponworld.com slickdeals.net
You can get coupons from coupons.com redplum.com smartsource.com
As well as direct...for example, Filippo Berio olive oil is on sale right now for 2.29 at shaws. On their website, if you sign up for their newsletter, you can get 2 $1 off coupons. We use a lot of olive oil here, and that's a good price.

THanks Michelle! I have been on those site for the past few days just reading up. I have been trying to collect coupons and I need to get ink so that I can print some. I want to try to get organized so I am going to buy a binder and other materials. I also just found out on HCW that you can send expired Qs to overseas military families which is awesome.
sorry--my computer is totally on the fritz (tyvm, connor)....
hmmm...what flavor chex mix did you get? typically the fancy types don't work.
everything else looked fine to me...did the catalina machine beep that it was done after the 2? is there any way it ran out of paper??
It beeps when it's done? No beep. I actually emailed them, and they got back to me saying 8-10 weeks...I think that meant they were sending me the coupon. Had to give them the info off the receipt. I bought the dark choc before and it worked...the other two were regular chex. The dk choc had a card underneath it.

yup. there is a loud beep when it is finished printing. could be that the machine jammed or ran out of paper, since you said you bought that flavor chex mix before. the tags don't always ring true though-- a few weeks ago old el paso was included in the cat and had tags under the products and not one item worked...obviously some lazy programmer didn't enter any of those UPC's (hence the use of the UPC list)
also, even though pepsi products were listed on that UPC list last week, but didn't work--i think if you actually tried to match the UPC numbers, not just the product names, to pepsi items in your store you probably would have found that the item/number combo on the list didn't match the same item/number at the store. the most likely reason being is that pepsi is probably bottled by different plants who use different UPC numbers--so our regular pepsi in MA probably has a different UPC number than regular pepsi in say Pittsburgh--make sense? pepsi stuff did work in other stores in the corporation, just nto shaws, which makes me think they probably have different UPC numbers in those regions.

Corey. I figured out what happened, but I don't know why. I contacted catalina and all my items were right, but when he added them up they came to $44 something, where as I get $45.96 based on the prices on the receipt.
His $ amts for three progresso soups are
Upc 00004119601112 Qty 1 Weight 0 Amt 1.70 Upc 00004119640482 Qty 1 Weight 0 Amt 2.24 Upc 00004119641932 Qty 1 Weight 0 Amt 2.50
My dollar amounts on my receipt are:
2.50, 2.50, and 2.99
He said to go to the store. Is that how I should proceed?
if your transaction was based on shelf price, the store won't do a thing for you. i have yet to meet any store personnel that realizes or will admit if they do realize that it is based on shelf price.
plus, you did receive two...the only ones that can actually "see" what the catalina machine did during your transaction (ie that it printed 2, not 3) is catalina themselves.
if it were me, i would probably just suck it up and let the $5 go. if you make a big to-do at the store, you will totally be marked as one of "those" couponers, iykwim;)

True...
But here's the thing. This [articular transaction, I was in a rush to get home, went through the self checkout, and forgot to scan my card (doi)...
So the prices on my receipt ARE the shelf prices, and the sale prices aren't even listed. I went in a day later to a different shaws and they gave me my savings in cash.
I just hate it when things don't go the way they are supposed to. I don't get why catalina has different prices. That makes NO SENSE to me! Because I didn't scan my card I know exactly what I paid...so in the interest of learning, if I was charged shelf price because I was too stupid to scan my card, my receipt SAYS $2.50, where did the $1.70 come from? No where on my receipt does it say $1.70. It's like he pulled that out of his a$$. Who sets the price??? Obviously it's not added up by the receipt price.

i would call catalina back. that man is obviously an idiot. he can look up your transaction by the # on your receipt and see exactly what you paid and what printed or in your case, did not print. that makes no sense that he sees one price and your receipt sees something different.
Yea, I didn't actually "pay" full price because when I went in the next day, they scanned my card and gave me $21 back, but initially I did, and the prices are right there for the codes he game me. I will call instead of email. That's why I didn't get it. He told me the three items that did not count towards the cat were codes for my milk, and two wise chips. I knew those didn't count, so then he gave me the prices and codes for everything else to show me that it adds up to 44.40. Which they do, but his prices are different than the ones on my receipt. I don't get that. Will let you know what happens.
