Robin got me wondering - is pickle relish different than chopped up pickles? Because from what I remember I don't like store bought relish but always chop up pickles and put them in tuna/chicken salad.
My pickle relish is sweet pickles, red peppers and spices. Never heard of soaking in beet juice and would never do that. Didn't think about just using the juice. My mom does that with her potato salad and everybody eats that. I don't really like hard boiled eggs(especially the yolk) so I won't eat them if it's just mashed up yolk, mayo and mustard(powder).
I am not a fan of deviled eggs either but even less of a fan of pickles so I am goin to say no
Another deviled egg Q tho: kyle's family soaks the egg whites in beet juice. So they are purple and flavored a little like beets. Anyone else ever heard of this or do it? He thinks it's the "right" way and the reasonthey are called deviled. I thinks it's odd and doesn't make me anymore excited to eat deviled eggs!
That just sounds....horrible.
I can't imagine a beet flavored deviled egg. ::shiver:: Wouldn't that make them taste like dirt?
I always thought the "deviled" came from the paprika added to it (something about adding spice or pepper, something like that). My dad the encylopedia told me once; I'm sure I'll remember the whole story in the middle of the night, lol!
okay, so I just looked it up. It said this:
Today many other foods, including eggs and crab, are served "deviled." To be considered deviled, a food has to have a kick from something like Dijon mustard, hot sauce, cayenne pepper or chopped hot peppers.
i saw one of the food network chefs - giada maybe? made a version of pickled eggs where she threw out the yolks and stuffed the boiled whites with a creamed crab mixture - moscarpone cheese, some other stuff, and crab... that seemed more appealing than the yolks.
that said, i HATE eggs - never ate a deviled one, never will!
love deviled eggs, Ive never had it with pickle relish but sounds like it could be good. I dont like celery or onion in my eggs though. And the beet ones NO THANK YOU.
