Looking for a gift idea of a 5th grade boy?

I know he likes video games, but what else is cool or popular this year?

I am clueless in this department.

My boys (and Jack is in 4th) are really into nerf guns right now.

Also Jack suddenly wants Target gift cards because he wants to go pick stuff out on his own.

Other than that, video games and sports.

I don't know how much you want to spend but the nerf guns are reasonable or you could go with something like this, my boys are dying for these.

He did ask for one, but his Aunt already got him one :(

It is so hard because I know he has all the video games and I would have no clue what to get.  Maybe I will just get him a gift card. I hate to do that because I like for him to open something. He does not have a lot of family so we all try to get him something every year. We are not close, so I do not know him well. Is there anything else that is Nerf related that is good right now?

I know I have posted this before, and realize it might not be for everyone.  To this day my nephews have talked about and liked getting a trash can filled full of junk food.  In fact, at Thanksgiving my nephew (who is also a teen now) told me that anytime I wanted to do that it was fine with him.

Anyway, if you want to do it, just put a 2 liter bottle of soda in the middle and fill in the rest with microwave popcorn, beef jerky, candy bars, chips, or whatever junk food he likes.  You can also put in a gaming magazine or two or maybe movie passes (or just do the movie passes as a present).  Put a big cello basket bag around it and tie it up with a bow.

Also if he likes sports, you can always buy him some tickets to a game.

My boys just got a nerf game for the Wii where you use a nerf gun and aim it at the screen for the video game.

Other nerf things?

You could get him a nerf football, basketball, soccer ball, etc.

My kids love to play with those in the house and they're especially nice if you live in a cold climate.

One other thing Jack loves are the legos sets where you use the instructions to build ships and cars and stuff.

You just have to make sure the theme is age appropriate, like don't get him star wars.

You can get these sets anywhere from$10 to $75.

Indiana Jones or Bionicles are cool.

Oh that reminds me, subscriptions to Boys' Life or Sports Illustrated Kids.

These are cool too.

Those bionicles look cool. I know he has a crap load of leggo stuff. I use to buy that for him. I saw those the other day but was not sure if his age was into that. That is a great idea. Then I can get a gift card to go with it so he can get what he wants at Target. Perfect, thanks

I think it just depends on the kid and if they like building things that take time and concentration.

If you know he liked it in the past then he probably still does. It's just a matter of finding the right one. Maybe a hobby shop would have something more age appropriate for a 5th grader.

Jack loves to sit and build, Ryan does not have the patience.
