Thanks for the update Tracy. I'm so glad you were so proactive and can get Raym what he needs. I'm sure it's really scary and i'll be praying for you both.

tracy,

i am sorry you're dealing with something that is not what you were expecting.

i do have to tell you, you consistantly impress me with your determination and love for your children.

you are a smart, strong woman and mother and you are giving raym (and all your kids) the help and love he needs.

as for being done having kids, i know it's a hard decision to make and even harder to accept sometimes. maybe try thinking of all the great things about moving to the next stange of your lives?

in any case, i am proud of you.

hang in there.

I couldn't agree with Sara more.  Raym is so lucky to have you for a mom and I really do applaud you for being so on top of this while he is still so young.  I think that, in itself, is going to be a huge difference in the long run.

Raym is lucky to have you! Our kids only have one set of advocates - parents, and good for you for getting him the help he needs. :hugs

tracy, i'm so sorry and i can't imagine how hard it was to get this diagnosis.  i'm praying for raym and i hope that, by getting help early, he will be able to catch up with his peers.  it makes me sad that this has to infuence why you would have more kids or not.  maybe in another year or so you will be able to judge more accurately how much extra help he will need, and then make the decision whether or not you can have more.  *hugs* to you, tracy

Tracy, what an awesome mom you are. Raym is so lucky to have you. Glad he will be getting services, no matter what he is "diagnosed" with. I know you will see some of the great progress some of our other MS babies have had.

I am not sure if I told you this but they are getting away from the PDD/Aspergers labels anyway and labeling all kids "autistic" with varying degrees. I'm sure this doesn't help but know that you are an amazing mom who can definitely handle this. You got him intervention as early as possible really and everything you see from here will be improvements.

This is really important - make sure your husband reads up on this and knows the type of stress and commitment a SAHM (or any mom really) of a special needs child has. You need to not only try to balance in the other kids but you NEED time for yourself.

I wanted to jump into the Jenny McCarthy conversation too. I love what she has done as far as raising awareness but really I want to punch her. Her son is not CURED. There is no cure. While I agree kids are treated and taught skills and do wonderful I truly believe that a kid with Autism always some little quirky thing about them even if the outside world doesn't notice. In Jenny McCarthy's case her son has been gluten free for years. It is wonderful that that worked for him but that isn't cured, it is treated. Chances are that if he suddenly ate something not on his diet he would lose some of his progress. Sorry I feel really strongly about some of this stuff, i'll jump off my soap box LOL

Really though Tracy I am a firm believer in takign advantage of all the opportunities available to these and if it meant he had to be labeled then take it as a way for him to get all the possible help available.

I'm here if you need anything or want to talk. heart.gif

Tracy I'm glad you are on top of things. Early intervention is the best for him. I totally can relate to how you are feeling though. I remember when they were thinking Braxton was on the Autisum Spectrum. Now that he has been in Special Ed Pre-school for a year now he is doing great. They think he will need speech through out Elementry school but he is doing loads better.

i am in love with jenny mcC.  but.  i know what you mean.  i worry about all this "he's cured" stuff - not that there's not hope for autistic children - but i'm right in line with what youre saying.  it can be treated, and therapies/diets have shown tremendous success.
