okay, i think i get what you are asking now...

basically, the 3oz setting runs less water through the k-cup which is how the iced coffee is more concentrated than just brewing a larger size of hot and adding ice.

at dunking donuts, they double brew their iced coffee so that after you add ice and cream, etc it is still strong enough.

essentially, by the keurig running half the water through the kcup, it is a double brew. it still comes out hot...you put ice in your empty mug, brew it on the iced coffee setting, then the ice cools it down. then you add additional ice to fill it up, plus your milk or cream or whatever. by the time you are done, you have the equivalent of a d&d medium.

melissa,

this blog has a pretty good post about making iced coffee with the platinum version versus others--it may help you decide.

I think you just sold me on the Kuerig.

I *only* drink iced coffee and when I looked into this, saw that it only made 3oz cups.  All I could think was "WTF??!!  3oz??".  I had NO IDEA it was concentrated so you could make a larger glass.  :bag

I like a VERY strong cup of coffee so I'm wondering if you were to make a regular glass of coffee (12-16oz I guess?), how watered down does it taste?  I know it also depends on what type of coffee you use, but I mean in general, compared to how strong it would be if you brewed it hot.

a regular glass and made iced coffee with it?

idt i am following your questionsmile

LOL  I got a bit excited over the prospect of being able to make iced coffee instantly (usually I refrigerate a pot overnight... when I remember.  When I don't, it's either a VERY long wait for a cup of coffee or I'm out spending too much on it again).

On the blog, they show a picture of the glass they are using to make the iced coffee and it still looks very small.  I would definitely want to make a bigger cup of coffee at once but am wondering how much ice and maybe water I could add before it tastes too watered down.  In other words, how strong & concentrated is the 3oz really?

I hope that made sense LOL!

diane,

we don't like a super bold coffee. we buy a morning blend and use that for iced coffee. we add ice to fill the glass, plus cream and sugar. we don't water it down with water at all. that makes a medium sized coffee.

if you want a really bold flavor, i would say you should buy an extra bold kcup. do you drink iced coffee black?

ditto on this.

i can't drink DD regular coffee b/c it's too watery for me, but i do like their iced.

i can recommend a few bold coffees that i order that work well when i make iced over the summer.

I just read this comparison and it looks like I will go for myself with the Keurig. I like stronger coffee and good coffee and it appears the tassimo has crappy coffee.

When I was shopping for one, I  researched both. I read a lot of negative reviews on the Tassimo. I am happy with my keurig choice.

Yep, my dad likes a strong coffee, and there are a few k-cups that are even strong for him, so a lot of it is depend. on the coffee you buy.

Thanks ladies!  I think I'm going to ask for this for Christmas.

I found a great price at Costco that included 72 Kcups and the reuseable filter.

http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11488453&search=keurig&Mo=1&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=keurig&Ntt=keurig&No=1&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1#

Since this is my first time using it, I think having an assortment of kcups will really help me decide which I like the best.

I'd also appreciate any suggestions for very bold coffee choices. biggrin

Sorry for the big ol' t/j Melissa!!

ok, girls.

first, when amazon is running a k-cup sale AND you can get the subscribe & save discount, i find them to have the best price. free shipping and usually 48ish k-cups for around $20.

this is by far my favorite that i've ever ordered: http://www.shoffee.com/detail.asp?id=4GMEBE i haven't ordered it in a while b/c it is $40 for 2 boxes on amazon, but for 2 boxes at $20 here, i'll probably order these next time.

i ordered this one once and not only was it very strong, it was bitter. some of my friends at school liked it (we have a keurig in the english office), but it was too strong for me, and that's pretty rare. Emeril's K-cups, Big Easy Bold for Keurig Brewers, 24 Count Boxes (Pack of 2)

my standard order is this one: Coffee People Wake Up Call K-Cups for Keurig Brewers (Pack of 50) it's been cheap on amazon, so i have it on subscribe and save. it's fairly strong and not bitter and very reasonably priced - $17.85 including shipping for 50 k-cups on subscribe and save.

hth someone!

Have not read all posts but I wouldnt have a Tassimo in my house.
We were bought one for a Wedding Gift cause we really wanted it (£100 down the tubes for my best friend) It's so fiddly, the coffee isnt very nice, and it works out quite expensive!

Also we had to buy new coffee mugs cause ours didnt fit in the machine.....

Mine came with a sample box. We were able to try a bunch of different ones (there were some pretty strong ones in the sample). I would recommend buying a sample pack if it doesn't come with one.

I think I will get one if I do not get it with the machine. I am so excited. I am suppose to wait to get mine, but not sure I can. My Mom and Dad will love it for them though.
