What's your Thanksgiving menu?

We're hosting because I'm insane, LOL. I made the mashed potatoes last night and the sweet potato casserole this morning, and they are in the freezer now. :) I'm going to try to do a little every day so I'm not totally overwhelmed Wednesday and Thursday!

So far our menu looks like this:

18 lb. turkey (you know, for 4 adults and 2 kids, LOL)

Sausage stuffing

Mashed potatoes

Sweet potato casserole

Corn pudding

Baked vegetables (subbing cauliflower for potato)

Rolls

Dessert will be pumpkin pie, apple pie, and TBD. :)

WDYT? Too much? Not enough?

We always go to Glen's grandparents for Thanksgiving. Usually we have:

Turkey breast
Cornbread dressing
Orange salad
Cranberry sauce
Corn--1 can regular mixed with 1 can cream
Chicken and dumplings
Beets--cold which look just like the cranberry sauce so no one eats either.
Last year there was a green bean casserole.
Different pies for dessert
Apricot nectar cake

Since the kids and I were still pretty hungry after the meal last year, this year I'm taking:
Mashed potatoes
Rolls
Mac and cheese (maybe)
Green beans or peas

Do you make your own cranberry sauce? Really couldn't be easier to do.

Do you have a good sausage stuffing recipe? My mother in laws is amazing if you want it.

I'm thinking of doing a dinner next weekend in honor of my american friends.

sausage, chestnut and thyme stuffing

shallot gravy

mashed potatoes (w/ loads of butter and whipping cream)

bourbon glazed carrots

baked green beans with sour cream sauce

homemade cranberry sauce

dinner rolls and butter

pumpkin pie

pecan pie

apple pie

homemade whipped cream

homemade vanilla and cinnamon ice creams

i guess i should have written homemade next to everything except the dinner rolls LOL.

we always do tgiving at matt's parents' house in MS.

she's not a great cook, but she's ok. and i think that she's an unsure cook who doesn't like to do things that are out of her comfort zone. mashed potatoes, for example, i make every year b/c she's never made them from scratch. i think i'll take my potato ricer this year. every year i wish i had it, so i think i'm just going to throw it in my suitcase.

cranberry sauce (only my in-laws eat this and they eat it out of the can)
biscuits

desserts are probably some kind of pie and chocolate delight which is a family tradition.

it's hard for me b/c if i were hosting at my house, i'd make everything from scratch. there, we do lots of stuff premade, like the biscuits, pies, etc.

my MIL is doing it this year - we're going to the cape. she does a TG very similar to my mom's, so i never feel like i'm missing out on anything :)
i have to say, the TG dinner isnt my favorite at all.
i dont like turkey, or potatoes really, or any of it actually (except the desserts).

so there will be roast turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows (i love that and so do the kids), she usually does this onion dish (i cant remember the name) and string bean casserole, cranberry sauce, biscuits.
she does premade pies which, as a dessert person, sorta kills me, so i'm thinking about making an apple pie to bring up (dessert is the only thing i like on TG kwim??) - i might make some cookies for the kids too). i dont like pumpkin pie so frozen is fine there ;)
i have to call her today and see if there's anything else i should bring for the main meal.
she mentioned that she might make the kids mac n cheese as well.

i'd frankly prefer linguini with red clam sauce for tg meal, but i'm definitely in the minority there!

Turkey. Walmart has turkeys for 40 cents a pound so I only spent $5.
Stuffing. Ray makes it in the bird which I refuse to eat so I make a box of Stovetop.
Sweet potato souffle and potatoes au gratin pre made from GFS.
Green bean casserole
Yeast rolls
Ray wants to be lazy and change up the sides. I'm going to end up making mash potatoes and a sweet potatoes with the marshmallows because that is what I like. I will also make pumpkin pie.

My mom would make everything from scratch if I let her.
Right now I dont want to deal with the clean up and mess, which she would also deal with but I dont want her to. So at the moment the plan is a honey baked ham, mashed potatoes, green beans or baked beans and biscuits.

We are hosting. My mom is flying in with her bf. Plus neighbors. It will be 9 adults and 7 kids (2 of them are teenage boys--yikes!).

I'm making:
turkey
gravy
cornbread stuffing--with chorizo if I can find it
sweet potato casserole with marshmallows
pumpkin pie

Neighbors are bringing:
potatoes
mac and cheese
veggies
other desserts

Honestly, I love doing the whole meal myself (and I found my list from 2 years ago when I did that--EJ wanted me to call all the neighbors and tell them we'd do everything) but it's more fun and inclusive this way and less work and money, so that's what we are doing.

Thanks. EJ found it at the grocery store. I'm excited. We just invited two more people I found out were going to be alone. Apt is going to be cramped but I love feeding a crowd.

At Joe's family's dinner, it's untelling. They are new-wave foodies that put little appreciation into the classic. If you must have stuffing there, it will be something weird, like you'd see on an episode of Chopped.

My sisters and I just sat down a few nights ago to do our menu... Ours is huge, but we'll have 30 people there.

2 deep fried turkeys (1 light brine, 1 dark brine)
Baked Sweet Potato bar (pecans, marshmallows, brown sugar, etc. Make your own.)

i LOVE them.

for those who don't know, they are those little pearl onions, boiled until soft and usually served in a buttery sauce w/salt and pepper.

they aren't "oniony"...it is a pretty mild onion flavor.

yum! yum!

and it is definitely a new england thing--i googled it and they are originally from a frannie farmer cookbook from 1920 called the Boston cooking school cookbook.
