Ugh... I heard 2 weeks, but maybe hopefully it's less! Sorry to hear about dh, pretty miserable illness at least from what I saw with Hannah.

I have also heard 2 weeks for FULL effectiveness but I know that kids under 10 have to get two doses so I don't know exactly how that works. Either way, I am so sorry! I hope it passes quickly.

I heard a week and a half.

Who knows.

I hope everyone can stay healthy.

Ryan had it before we got vaccinated and no one else got it.

For Christopher he needs second dose so he is not fully covered, but who really knows if in fact the one does does work .

I hope you all stay healthy and DH has just a touch of the flu. You two do not make a great pair right now him with the flu and you shingles.

Yea, no kidding, Melissa...his fever actually went away and he went to work...no signs of aches/headache, or anything else, so perhaps it's just a cold. I hope so.

That is great news.

My doc said 10 days.

the recommendation in canada right now is kids under 3 need second dose, kids under 10 with chronic conditions need second dose and 3-10 do not need second dose.

interesting - I wish they would have something standard. Here they have said anyone under 12 needs two doses.

I thought of one more thing.

My sister's ped told her that since her kids got the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot, she doesn't need to stress as much about getting them the booster.

Like the regular flu shot kind of covers that.

I don't get it but if Christopher got the regular flu shot prior, maybe you're good to go.

 hmmm...

not sure I agree with him/her since they're different strains of the flu

the second shot, or booster as some call it, is the one that actually provides the  full immunity.  The initial shot doesn't always  provide enough immunity.

That was always my understanding anyway.  That's why with the seasonal flu shot, the first time kids get it they have to get two shots.  Then after that, they only need one.

I hope he just has a cold and no flu!

As for the vax, we have been told the under 10 sect all need 2. When we had the wave of H1N1 at the preschool a few weeks ago, one of the boys in Anna's class had had the first of 2 shots a month prior, and still caught the flu (he is over 4, obviously), so I definitely think they need both to get full immunity. There were a couple of kids I know who got the first dose of the vax and still got the flu itself.
