I have also heard 2 weeks for FULL effectiveness but I know that kids under 10 have to get two doses so I don't know exactly how that works. Either way, I am so sorry! I hope it passes quickly.
Yea, no kidding, Melissa...his fever actually went away and he went to work...no signs of aches/headache, or anything else, so perhaps it's just a cold. I hope so.

the recommendation in canada right now is kids under 3 need second dose, kids under 10 with chronic conditions need second dose and 3-10 do not need second dose.

interesting - I wish they would have something standard. Here they have said anyone under 12 needs two doses.
How long does it take for the h1n1 vaccine to be effective? Christopher and sarah had it last thursday...I think dh has the flu
I thought of one more thing.
My sister's ped told her that since her kids got the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot, she doesn't need to stress as much about getting them the booster.
Like the regular flu shot kind of covers that.
I don't get it but if Christopher got the regular flu shot prior, maybe you're good to go.

hmmm...
not sure I agree with him/her since they're different strains of the flu
the second shot, or booster as some call it, is the one that actually provides the full immunity. The initial shot doesn't always provide enough immunity.
That was always my understanding anyway. That's why with the seasonal flu shot, the first time kids get it they have to get two shots. Then after that, they only need one.

As for the vax, we have been told the under 10 sect all need 2. When we had the wave of H1N1 at the preschool a few weeks ago, one of the boys in Anna's class had had the first of 2 shots a month prior, and still caught the flu (he is over 4, obviously), so I definitely think they need both to get full immunity. There were a couple of kids I know who got the first dose of the vax and still got the flu itself.
