i know we've discussed this before...
but do you think our 4.5 yr olds are too young for this yet?
R isnt really a doll person, but she just told me that she doesnt like barbies/princesses bc they're grownups, and she doesnt like baby dolls bc they're babies.
the catalog just came in the mail and she's already memorized all the dolls' names, and she is now teaching the names to C.  and we just chose the doll online that looks most like R...she's like bananas for this whole concept.
my gut says this will be a waste though, adn that i should wait at least till her 5th bday. what do you guys think?

I think you know her best but I don't think she is too young.

I do think you are in a special situation where you could take her in and do a day of it sometime. I don't think she's too young for that at all (though your wallet will take a big hit, lmao).

It would make a great birthday gift, a trip to the city and a new doll. that way it won't get mixed up in the holiday shuffle.

But that is a long time to wait.

I don't think it's a waste.  As she gets older she will probably play more and more with them because her friends will be.  If you really don't want to spend the money for an AG doll you could consider these (although from what you have described about R, she very well only be happy with an AG).

Our Generation Dolls from Target (example)

Toys R Us have the Mia dolls by Madame Alexander

I have also seen some similar ones at Walmart but not seeing them on line.  FWIW, Elizabeth has just started showing interest in dolls too.

If she is interested then why  not. I mean you can go right to the store and have her look at it. She sounds like the kind of kid who does not just want something for the sake of wanting. Maybe if she saw it in person?

Allie has the bitty baby and one of the twins and loves all the AG stuff.

When we were in Chicago a week ago I asked her about the bigger one like Kit and she said no. She likes the size of the Bitty twin and the clothes are not baby like.

I do like Kit though.

I do not think you can go wrong with them. If she does not like it I bet Cara will end up liking it down the road.

We have the craddle, high chair and all the jazz for them and she is getting this

oh those are really cute, thanks for the heads up.  this is a whole new world for me.  R does tend to be very picky - youre right about that, and melissa youre right that she deosnt want something just for the sake of wanting it (she OFTEN comes out of a toystore having rejected every single thing in there).

i think she'd like these alternate dolls - but she's pretty hooked on the concept of kit...i think i'll see where this leads in the next week or so.

i might even ask my mom -- she's not sure what to get R :)

Well at least you know what she really wants.  I, on the other hand, had to search (and thankfully found) for a purple dragon. giggle.gif

you have to take her at some point. Allison just loves it. Sure it is insane and totally cult like, but it is fun and brings them joy.

take a family trip there sometime and just soak it all up. Rich thinks it is insane, but is totally trapped into the fact he has girls and this is just going to be his life.

it is worth the trip to save on shipping.

welcome to the crazy world of american girl.

cecile is 11 and is getting her 6th doll for christmas (kaya...).   she shows no signs of slowing down.  all dolls are played with  and wen her friends come to spend the night it is good to have a few so they can all play (thats a few years down the line for you!)

she has kitt too - i love her!!!

clara has one just like me doll.  those disney princess dresses i made are for her AG doll for christmas, and i got her the pink picnic table and some fun food sets as christmas presents this year.

next time we are in new york we can have an AG meetup with the girls!

yup my nieces who are cecile's age are not slowing down with it either. i just talked to my mom and she's like, "i've bought about 20 of them" - my mom knew kit right off the back of her hand.

DEFINITELY nyc AG day - cant wait. tell me when youre in town!!

I made Mike go for Josie's birthday when he was on a trip to NYC.

Hilarious.

He wouldn't listen to me. Thought he's just run in and grab a doll and run out. How bad could it be?

:rofl

He was in complete shock that such a place even existed.

Kelly, I am not sure if I ever posted pics of the AG outing we took with Natalie and her friends for their 4th bdays. WHAT FUN!! The girls LOVED it. We had lunch at the Cafe with the dolls and spent lots of time wandering around the store. It was a really special day!

Natalie really loves her Bitty Babies - she got her second Bitty that day and also has one of the Bitty Twins (whose sister is currently living with Allie and Melissa, lol). She talks about the Ruthie doll all the time, but still prefers the babies.

I think 4 is the perfect age to introduce Rachel to AG.

oooooomg i am DYING that bitty baby's twin is at melissa's house -  you guys need to stage a "parent trap" reinactment - LMFAO.
i gave rachel her dinner tonight and she opened her catalog to kit's page and put her plate on top. she goes "now i have a kit placemat" -- adORABLE.
i dont really want to get C one too (pretty expensive for a 2 yr old kwim???) - she's  gravitating toward julie now.  i might have to get C one of the cheaper versions.  we'll see.

Alicia, I love those pics. Allie loves her Lily. That is the other half of the twins. She has that and bitty and plays with both.

Kelly, I bought Allie the bitty baby for her 2nd birthday and it was perfect for her. She loves dolls though.

We are going to do a special trip when she is 5 and have lunch there and all that jazz. She really just squeals when we visit AG. It is like kiddie crack.
