Need Thanksgiving Help
Permalink

So, I have volunteered to present to Mason's class and teach them about Thanksgiving.  There is only one other American girl in his class, so most of them know nothing of Thanksgiving.  I need help!!!

I would like to either read them a story or show them a short film.  Does anyone have any ideas?  If it is a story, I have to be able to print it off from online, because I wouldn't be able to find a book on Thanksgiving here.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Also, we will probably do a craft.  Anyone have any ideas on that?  Thanks everyone!

i think making thanksgiving hats would be easy/quick/fun...you could do half the class pilgrims and half native americans...

you could also make turkey handprints--paint the palm brown and then each finger a different color. have them make a print on white paper, then add googly eyes, beak, and a gobbler.

I found this little song that really does a very nice and simple job of explaining what Thanksgiving is

Thanksgiving Day
(to the tune of row, row, row your boat)
The Pilgrims sailed away,
Far across the sea.
They came to America
So they could be free.
The Native Americans
Helped them plant the corn.
Then they shared a great big feast,
Thanksgiving Day was born!

This also has lots to explore:

If you want to tell the story you could make a simple version and use puppets or get felt and cut out a couple of pilgrims and native americans and whatever else and use a felt board to tell the story.

I like Corey's idea of making hats.  Kids usually like stuff like that and they can play with them.

you could always do Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. That's a tradition in our house.

And I was going to suggest the same turkey hand thing as Corey.

Thanks, ladies!  Corey, I like the story you posted, but I need pictures too.  Maybe I should print and color my own pictures, but that will be a lot of work.  Hmmm...

I thought about this one too.  It is pretty short, right?
