Catalina question, rant, and confession
Permalink

I've been studying this couponing, catalina rolling, sale-making, stuff and I've been saving some money (sort of). I've been really going over the AFC Kroger board to see what I need to buy to get OYNO cats, and I've been making my shopping lists to get them. I've been to Kroger 6 or 7 times in the past week, and I've only gotten ONE of the OYNO cats that I think I should have. And that one was for buying 4 sets of Solo cups/plates. I had to stand there a few beats after the cashier handed me my receipt and say, "Do you have anything else for me??" And then the machine printed my $4 oyno order.

Yesterday and today, I have bought stuff that is supposed to get me these oyno cats but the machine isn't printing anything. I even stood there and asked the cashier today, and then asked if the machine was working.

Are these cat deals good at different times for different areas of the country? I know our Kroger ads go from Wednesday to Tuesday, and in some places they're from weekend to weekend.

Also, are there items that cancel out cats if you buy them along with the qualifying items?

Here's my confession: I've spent more at Kroger and gone there more times this past week than I have ever done at Kroger in one week. Thank goodness I NEVER buy items that we don't need or use anyway but it's still frustrating me.

Here are the things I've bought to attempt to get these cats:
$20 worth of Kraft cheeses
$10 worth of Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers
6 packages of Duracell batteries

(Thought these might be over but I had coupons for the products):
Johnson's baby product x 2

okay, first thing is when you get to the register check that the cat machine is on--look for a green light.

next, does the kroger board list items that aren't working? for example, sometimes a cat will be for say jelly--and strawberry and grape will work, but others won't...and you don't really know that unless someone on your board reports that it didn't. i try to always stick to the most basic flavors when their is a cat involved...many times cats for things like chex mix won't work on the fancy flavors that have chocolate and m&ms--just traditional, etc. does that make sense?

now, if the cat deal is buy 4 of something and get X back and nothing prints, i would go to customer service.

if it is a deal where you need to spend X amount to get X amount back and if your store runs off sale price, i would go to customer service.

if it is a deal where you need to spend X amount to get X amount back and your store runs on SHELF price, i would call CATALINA MARKETING - (888) 322-3814 b/c the store usually won't admit (or don't realize) that it runs on shelf price and won't give you anything, but catalina knows how it works and they can mail you the OYNO's.

hth, robin:)

also, the cat machine takes awhile to print, b/c it is a computer tallying your total, kwim? it probably won't print until after the cashier has already given you your receipt, change, etc.

i don't care if i look stupid waiting...i take my sweet time putting away my receipt and digging for my keys, etc.:)

no, other products don't cancel them out.

my store isn't running any of those deals you mentioned right now, so they must be kroger specific.

the thing about me, sara, and april is we all shop at stores that are owned by the same corporation--so even though we all shop at different stores, the deals are made through the corp. office. since kroger isn't owned by the same company, your deasl won't be the same.

Well, afaik there is nothing anywhere in the store advertising the Cat deals. I only knew about them from here and the other couponing websites. I thought about going to CS but then what do I say? "On my couponing website, it said that I should get $X off my next order when I buy blah-blah-blah?" Why would they believe me? Is there something official printed somewhere about what deals Catalina is offering? Do they have a website?

And I know it is possible to get the deals because I got a $4 oyno from buying the Solo products. And before that, I got two in one transaction (both .50); I don't even remember from what.

ETA: I pretty much never buy strange or exotic flavors of stuff because no one in my house would eat them. I also tried to get one for buying 2 Welch's. I wasn't sure if it was Welch's juice or Welch's jelly so I got two of each (and I had coupons for both) but still . . . nothing.

oh okay

I just looked--there's no brookshire's on that website

That sucks.  There's a Safeway, but that's what Brookshire's replaced here YEARS ago

hmmm...if it were me, i would post exactly what size/flavors i bought on the kroger board and see what they think caused you not to get one.

or, in the future i would try a scenario that someone already posted that worked for them.

i know that probably isn't a ton of help. i think in this case since they aren't advertised i would skip cs and call catalina--they ask for info from your receipt and they can actually tell if something printed or not during that transaction from their end.

i think you can email them now as well. try googling catalina marketing co.

Thanks, Corey!

I asked some questions at afc and found some people in my area. Apparently I need to try some different Kroger stores. There are many of them around here so I guess I'll do that.
