Does anyone have a PSP?

The boys ghave decided they want PSPs for xmas...actually they've wanted them for a few years and I'm seriously considering it for this year.

How does it compare to the DS? Keely is getting the DS Lite even though she really wants the DSi...I'm hoping getting her 3 games will compensate for getting the cheaper DS giggle.gif

From what I can tell, the PSP has more games that the boys would be interested in.

What do or don't you like about the PSP?

the graphics on the PSP Are amazing compared to the DS.  if they like serious games like assassins creed or call of duty etc. psp is the way to go!

we got timmy a PSP a few years back from gamestop - it was used and refurbished for i think less than 100 bucks and is has been totally reliable for about 2-3 years now with no problems.  we are one very satisfied customer with their service.

a great place to get a used one is gamestop.  online, or there probably is a store in a mall near you.  and we often get used games there too - this stuff really isnt worth all the cost, kwim? especially as my tim will play through a game once and not replay it.

Megan - doesn't the PSP have wifi too?  That is one reason my son wants it.  I have been planning to get the Itouch but with the PSP having wifi too it's a toss up.

These are the two products I'm debating between for him - the Itouch he can get super cheap games and lots of them.  The PSP the games are going to be more expensive and he's going to have to save for them.

what is your opinion on these two products in relation to one another?

his uses:  he likes to surf the net, play games.  He had an MP3 player until last week when it went through the washer so until that time the music option of the Itouch wasn't even a factor in getting it.

We love gamestop. Stephen got a psp 3 year ago. Stephen played games on it at first but likes it more for music, videos and movies. If you don't want unlimited access to the internet anywhere they can get a wireless signal you need to block it.

timmy has an older psp - like 3 years old. so back then it did not have wifi.  if it does now, that is GREAT.  we have a home PSP and timmy is addicted to playing call of duty with the online connection so he can play live against his friends and other players.  i would wonder if, with a wifi connxn, you could do that as well from a psp?

i can't compare the two given our old psp version (and i love my touch :) )  but if i was you i would totally go to a store like a gamestop and get the guys working there to explain the ins and outs of the newer psp models.

ask him what he prefers? the touch apps are fun and addictive - but real different from the quality of the psp games.  he can get used psp games cheaper , maybe it is good for him to get goals to get more games? incentive for good behaviour and such?

eta - just saw that alicia responded - i would check out the psp more and see what the music and wifi options are...

The newest one is the PSPgo and you download everything for it. If we were buying one now we would go with that one. Not sure how much the download price compares to buying games.

OK - this is what I learned today at Gamestop.

I checked out the used PSP ($129).  I told the guy I was considering a PSP or Itouch.  He said if he were him he would go with Itouch.  He then told me about how in a year they won't even be making games anymore for the PSP b/c of the PSPgo.  They are $249.  I haven't gone online to check out prices for games but they will all be downloadable - no more little disks or games for my DS to lose!

Now it's b/w a PSPGo and an Itouch.

That's why I like the pspgo.  Stephen hasn't put a game in his psp for over a year so just downloads would be great.  Right now he likes it for what he uses his psp for and all his gaming is done on the 360 anyway.

so your boys prefer the touch now . . . . you know John is 13.5 years old.  I would have to think HE would prefer the itouch too.

I was 99.9% leaning toward the touch until he mentioned the PSP a month or so ago then I started getting wishy washy about it.

Yeah they like it better. They were constantly losing the psp games and with the itouch there are an endless number of free games that they can load. I buy about $5 worth of games for them a month. I can also load tv shows and movies for when we travel and all of their music is on there too.

If you get them definitely invest in the clear screen covers.
