all this stuff is so confusing.
my pedi isnt even prescribing tamiflu unless the kid is hospitalized. this SUCKS.
i hope anna is feeling better - keep us posted.
and lib, i'm sorry elizabeth has it!!  hope she's feeling better soon too!!

tamiflu only works within the first 24 hrs of the onset of symptoms so i am surprised he is even prescribing it to hospital patients.  when i took bryce in his doctor said had you waited another day we would not of even put him on the tamiflu because it would've been to late for it to even be effective at that point.

actually, its the first 48 hours.  http://coldflu.about.com/od/medications/p/Tamiflu.htm

i was just about to post that, lol

I am by far not an expert, but I would check on her through the night and go from there.  Elizabeth now has H1N1.  We were at a wedding last night and she was fine and had a good time with one of her friends and danced the night away.  We were home a little before nine and she was sleeping.  She woke up after midnight with a fever and it just became worse.  We ended up taking her to the clinic today because she has had a temp of 104.  They told us she has the swine flu.  Oh, and she has thrown up a bit, but I think it's more because of the fever.  I don't know if this helps any, but it's been our experience.

How is she now?  Poor E cry

I am relieved that she is doing much better today.  She did have a fever this morning, but it is steadily becoming lower and lower.  She also actually managed to sleep for most of the night last night.  I can finally give her tylenol.  Until 11 pm last night, every time I gave her tylenol or motrin she just threw it back up.  I think getting some rest and tylenol is helping greatly.  Probably the tami flu doesn't hur either.  Thanks for asking. smile

Laura, it doesn't sound like the flu to me.  Is she any better?

April, I've heard from several different peds that Delsym is a good otc cough medicine. I can't remember if it's Delsyn or Delsym..

Delsym is ammmmmazing. I don't think there's a child version, but you use a really low dose (Hannah gets 1/2t) and it works REALLY well.

That's what we give Hannah for her cough (it was recommended by her ped) and it nips it quickly.

Thank you all so much for the input, ladies!

Libby-I am so sorry E has h1n1-and I am glad she is getting better. I hope it is short lived.

And Apies-how is Jake today???

So Anna woke up with a fever of 102.2 this morning. No more throwing up so far today, and her temps have been between 100 and 102 (I haven't given her anything for the fever because she hadn't seemed too terribly uncomfortable, and I don't like to medicate their fevers when they aren't too high). She was playing when her temp was on the lower side, and then got feeling crummy again and put herself to bed at 11:30am. She is still resting now-but restless.

She has only eaten a piece of toast (which is fine with me), but not drinking a whole lot either-fluids are always tough with her. She has had about 6oz I would say. She said her belly hurt before going to take a rest, but she wasn't sure if that was because it was empty or sick, lol. Also, she said her chest hurt, but that was after a coughing spell (her coughing has been pretty continuous for weeks now-part of the mucus drainage issue for her-I should really start her on Claritin, though my SIL said zyrtec works better). She hasn't complained about any other aches or pains, no headaches or anything else.

IDK-it doesn't *seem* like flu to me. I guess I'll wait and see how she is when she gets up from her nap. It just seems like a bug, not the flu, but I could be wrong...

I do know that the kids are dropping like flies at her school. There were 2 out from Kate's class today (out of 8), and even before drop off started (Kate goes in at 8:45, Anna starts at 9-so I was leaving as the parents were lining up for drop off), there were 3 other kids out from Anna's class (out of 18 in her class-we drop off early because there are a lot of siblings in the 2s/4s classes-the teachers just let us drop them in the classroom after we drop off the little ones). IHNI how many were out in total, and IHNI how many are really really sick, or if people are being more cautious, but there are a ton of sick kids around.

you know what really worries me is that my kiddos do have these allergy things going on . . . I know they don't have anything but allergies at this point.  But what I'm scared to death of is that they pick up H1N1 WHILE battling these allergy type of things.  With all the snot and fluid bugging their respiratory systems right now I'm thinking this is a prime scenario for pneumonia if H1N1 were to get ahold of them right now.

I need to find out if Kate can take Claritan.   I need some freaking vaccinations (seasonal AND H1N1) to become available in my area!!!

This is exactly my concern too, Kris.  I worry so much that with the congestion and coughing that Anna already has that if she does get the flu, she will end up with secondary infections that could be very dangerous.

UGH.

Just don't touch your girls when you get home until you can wash your hands and change your clothes.  That will help from spreading it!

Even if they had the vaccine available and you decided to get them, they may not could get them with them already being congested, kwim?  I think it all depends..

Praying for protection for all of our kiddos!
