Ever since the kids have started watching iCarly, they've been asking for smoothies. None of us (including myself) have ever had one. I don't really think my kids will like them but I'm willing to make some and let them try.
Here are some ingredients that I have on hand (but not that I necessarily want to put together in a smoothie):
[These are all ingredients that I found when doing a general google search for smoothie recipes.]
I don't have any kind of berries but if they are a necessity, I can get some. My kids are not big berry eaters.
Do you have a favorite smoothie recipe that you or your kids really like? I don't care if they are low-fat since my scrawny kids could use a little fat. I also need instructions on how to make the smoothies. I do have an ancient blender.
when i do them, i dont exactly measure - so adjust as you go after you start blending - too thin? add icecubes or ice cream or banana, too thick add more of the liquid...
do you have any frozen fruit bars?
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 banana
1 chopped up fruit bar (strawberry? orange or tangerine? think edy's fruit bars here, not really popsicle but that could do as well...)
peanut butter banana is always good.
1/2 cup milk
1/2 banana
1 spoonful peanut butter (more or less to taste)
or you could do it with ice cream -
1/2 cup milk
i spoonful peanutbutter (to taste)
1 scoop chocolate ice cream
you can really add anything that seems good. if you want to keep it "sorbet" like, use water or orange juice for your liquid. ice cubes, banana and/or sorbet to thicken for more creamy, use milk for liquid and milk ice cream to thicken.
i personally love a creamy fruit shake - for the kids i would use milk (i love almond milk with fruit), vanilla ice cream and any berries - raspberry and blueberry my fave...
oh yeah, and i love peach sorbet with raspberries. add some orange juice or even a little milk - yummy!
oh - one more which is maybe more adult... i like this thick.
a (big) scoop of vanilla ice cream
a big squeeze of hersheys syrup (more or less to taste)
some mile to thin a bit if needed - blend till all incorporated.
then (this is the good part...) take some shelled pecans, pour on a bit of melted butter and salt and roast them. buttered pecans - YUMMY! let it cool and roughly chop and stir into the pureed vanilla/hersheys mixture. its kinda like a blizzard - sooo yummy if you like pecans!
Usually yogurt, frozen fruit(berries, peaches, anything really), banana and wheat germ. All of that goes in a blender and then I add OJ to get the consistency right. I would add ice cubes if I was using fresh fruit. My kids pig out on this.
we call it a smoothie but i'm not sure it really is.
i use strawberry yogurt (usually stonyfield farms full fat kind), then fill the yogurt cup 1.5 times with milk, then add a vanilla carnation instant breakfast packet. it gets protein, calcium and all the vitamins, etc.. from the instant breakfast.
