Totally obsessed with cloth diapering.

I'm truly shocked at myself, but I am LOVING these cloth dipes.  I went to a Happy Heinys retail store the other day and could have spent a fortune!  I restricted myself to 2 diapers, but one of them is a brand new print and not even online yet - I really need to take a picture because it is gorgeous!  I didn't have good luck with trying them overnight, but I read today that the solid ones are better for nighttime than the prints, so I'll have to get some new ones.  ;)

I started with prefolds and covers and love them for daytime so far!  I just ordered my first wool longie and I am giddy about it!

Just thought I'd share...if I had known CDing was this much fun, I would have started when Mason was a baby!

Isn't it crazy exciting?

I went to a local store (new) and had a hard time not buying even though both kids are out. Time for another, I guess. Lmao.

Alison, when and if the time comes, I'll have to pick your brain.  I've been really considering this for our next, but for the first 5-6 months we would still have laudrymat style laundry here on campus, so not sure that would work.

Glad to hear it is working out for you...it is encouraging :)

I am totally going for it with the next one. Well, given I am able to stay at home. I wanted to with Owen and just didn't.

Threadjack.  I thought I had opened up the sexy halloween costume thread and read your response first.  I thought to myself "I so wouldn't expect Juni to be ok with sexy halloween costumes"  LMAO.

This is something I would definitely love to look into as well!

Does it end up being cheaper besides being more earth-friendly?

I'm so overwhelmed by the whole concept but I'm thinking after I get the hang of it, it may  really be worth it.  I'm not sure why the whole thing seems so difficult and scary! LOL

Di, I do think the start up costs can be high but with Charlie, I bought 2 packs of diapers from the time he was born (August) until Christmas. I used disposables over night and when we were out (though we wouldnt' have had to I was just under the delusion that he would maybe sleep through the night in disposables).

I did an extra load of laundry every two days (and probably could have done less if I had more diapers).

I had 12 diapers with Charlie - I probably should have had 20.

The all in one diapers are just as easy as disposables, they just need to be washed.

And before you do the investing in diapers, I know companies around here (and online) have trial period packages. I saw our local store had a $40 package where you get a bunch of different diapers for a trial period and when you return them, you got a $40 credit towards the purchase of new diapers. I don't think you'll know what you really like and what the baby doesn't pee out of unless you try a bunch of different kinds.

This really gives me baby fever. lmao.

I wonder if I can un-toilet train Josie?

ITTTTTU where you are coming from.  I was very intimidated by it all.  Some good sites with info are:

pinstripesandpolkadots.com

diaperpin.com

thediaperhyena.com

I ended up going with prefolds (basically those big burp cloths, but they are diaper service quality - softer, more absorbent, and more durable) and covers to start with.  That's the cheapest way to cloth diaper.  I paid $60 I think for 4 covers and a dozen prefolds.  The covers can be reused a few times before washing if they aren't soiled or smelly.  You just fold the prefold (there are a ton of different folds you can do) and place it in the cover.  It contains everything really well.

I've since branched out into pocket diapers for nighttime, but I'm still trying to figure out a good insert combination to keep dry all night.  I spent $17/each for 2 Happy Heinys one-size pocket diapers.  They will fit her until she potty trains, so they end up being very economical, though with pockets and all-in-ones, you have to wash after each use.

I spent $12 on special detergent (regular laundry detergents are harsher on the diapers and make the fabric repel moisture rather than absorb it), $14 on a drawstring bag to put in the diaper pail, so I can dump everything in the washer and the bag as well, and another $19 on another dozen prefolds because I got the wrong size the first time, LOL - but the ones I got the first time will work when she gets a little bigger.  The covers are supposed to fit to 30 pounds, so I may not need a bigger size in those ever.

A friend of mine has 2 dozen BumGenius one-size all-in-one (AIO) diapers and does laundry about every 5 days.  She probably spent about $600 - it sounds like a lot but that's way less than you'd spend on disposables over 2-3 years.

I don't know that I could have done cloth during the newborn phase, TBH.  It's easy now because Evie is exclusively breastfed, so I don't have to rinse off her poopy diapers before putting them in the washer, and she only poops once every 3 days.  Once she starts solids, I'll have to dump out the poo into the toilet before washing, so I'm not looking forward to that, but apparently you're supposed to do that even with disposables.  Who knew?  LOL.

I loved the inserts from jamtots.com - the hemp inserts

I'm on iPod but I'll find you a link. It's a Canadian company but the hemp prefolds are crazy absorbant. They were perfect for Charlie for overnight.

I'll see if I can get the link for you.

I can't wait to try the new hemp fitted I got today.  It's in the dryer right now.  :)

Uhm. stfu.

She's freaking adorable. I'm in love with that diaper. And you are killing me with the headbands. Love, love, love.

I so wish I could find my favorite diaper of Hannah's... it was an Amy Butler print, and absolutely gorgeous. Jen and I loved it so much that we had the girls' photos taken in them, lmao.

I'm so glad that you are enjoying cloth.

P.S., I have wool shorts downstairs in a box. Do you want them? They are boy colors, but you could pimp them out with some cute shirts or something. I can't remember what colors they are, but I know they were boyish. (but cute)

That picture of her is WAY to cute!!!

I have the Bumgenius Organic AIOs. I love those diapers!!! That is what our main stash is. I went through pockets then went to those. The Sposoeasy's are a good AIO diaper as well.

Of course not as pretty as the prefolds and covers.
