Evie...

I just have to post this because I was so choked up earlier this morning and it's about to happen again.

I seriously cannot get over this baby girl. I love all my kiddos and cherish their personalities (even the qualities that make for clashes and we definitely have those a lot around here!); I just have to give Evie the spotlight for a moment.

Every single day I am amazed by her. I think she's probably behind on gross motor (not crawling yet, for one thing, although she still gets around on the floor just fine, scooting and rolling and stretching!) but you never would notice anything about her skills or lack of them.

It's her personality.

In all of 8 months, she has only ever cried ONE TIME that I couldn't figure out what she needed in short order. Once!! And that, I think, was just because she got overtired and couldn't wind down. She rarely cries at all, and when she does it's usually just a sort of warning cry that "Hey, I'm going to be upset if you don't feed me/change me/hold me soon" and as soon as she sees me head in her direction, it stops. I have never met a baby who cries less than she does -- or who is happier; not even Holly was this mellow!

Not much rattles this baby. She doesn't even cry when Rob turns the blender on (and her seat is usually only about six feet away from there). She just locks eyes with me when she gets startled, and if I smile, she smiles and it's like nothing ever happened that was scary. She's a mama's girl, which surprised me, and loves to give me those open mouthed kisses (she won't do it to Rob, lmao) and to snuggle with her head on my shoulder.

She's still a big baby, though at 21 pounds or so she's not quite as "holy wow!" there as she was, but I don't feel like I'm missing out on the teeny baby factor because everything about her just screams soft, sweet innocence. She has totally restored the infant experience for me and smoothed over so much of the scarring left by dealing with colic and wondering if maybe I just wasn't cut out for the baby thing and that's why Lance suffered so much. She makes me feel competent and aces at this, although anyone could be with her!

I can't even tell you what all she is to me or how stunning she is as a little person already. She's so calm and loving...there's such a light about her, and I think everyone who meets her picks up on that. People stop me in the store. And I go home thinking, "And I'm the lucky one because I get to take you home with me always." heart.gif

Sorry for the novel; I just am completely head over heels for her and would never have imagined that the awesome baby factor would have stayed around for this long. I thought we were just lucky those first months. And we were -- and are -- because apparently this is just who she is. I never wanted kids and I fo SHO did not want a third child, especially right on top of the other two, so joy was not my first emotion when I got that bfp.

If someone could have shown her to me in advance, it would have been. Shock and joy and awe. heart.gif And no picture does her justice, but:

(Make sure you print out this thread and tuck it away to remind yourself of this when she is a moody 13 year old!)

That was so wonderful to read Mel. I think that even from the pictures, it is easy to tell that she is just lit up inside. Lucky mama, and lucky baby!!!

I am glad she has helped you heal from dealing with the colic with Lance (hear that Kelly?!?! ;) ). No one deserves it more.

Sounds like Evie is the absolute perfect complement to your family! heart.gif

Amazing post. I agree with Alicia that you need to print and save this.

I love baby slobber. Don't worry about the not crawling either. Its not a skill babies need to do. Stephen never did and Raven didn't until she was one.

wow, mel.  what a beautiful way to express how you feel about evie.  she sounds so delightful.  i am so happy that she is such a calm baby and especially that she isn't a crier.  i know what it is like to have one that cries constantly, and nobody deserves to go through that once, let alone again.  you know what i mean, and i'm glad that she is so much easier for you.

(I have that same outfit for Addy- not the lamb one but the one in the first picture)

I am so glad that your third baby is super easy! I admit that when we were having Addy I was panicked that it'd start off mellow and wind up like Colin but like your Evie- she only cries when she's got gas.

I am so glad you are getting that baby love in.

She's a beauty.
