I don't need to feel pretty. There was a time when I used make-up(last time was 1999 for a wedding) and I know I look a lot better with it but didn't seem worth it just to stay home. I would like a better wardrobe. I think I would present myself better if I did.

wow, 1999, really. You are amazing. I think it is great that you feel confident enough to venture out in the world with zero make-up. I do it on the weekends a lot, but I have never been able to go to work without it.

lol. I don't even own makeup that isn't expired.  I wouldn't even know where to start.  I had some very basic concealing powder foundation for a while that I would put on for the worst skin days, but it met a tragic end thank to the kiddos.   I have never replaced it.

Amazing - I mean honestly I think that is great. I wonder how many women on here do not wear make-up?

Do you think you would in another job environment or is that just you and not liking make-up?

This may sound stupid but i feel pretty when I have some time to myself.  I guess that if i feel good about taking care of me i show it in the outside.  I love to go ALONE to the mall, or read a good book or just take a bath by myself.  Somehow that gives me the energy to put on makeup, were earing, do my toenails and wear pretty clothes.

Right now I'm losing weigh so I feel that I am taking care of me so I usually do exercise in the morning and change to some nice clothes (mostly jeans) to pick up the kids.

I almost never wear make up.

Weddings, special occasions.

I'm cool with not looking my "best".

I'm overly self-confident with my normal face. ;)

It is that charming personality ;) I love that women feel great without make-up. I think that is empowering. I know it is just a personal choice, but I often wish that society would not push beauty(material kind) down peoples throats. These young girls today have so much media shoved at them. We were not even raised with any of that. Well, I was not. I am 34 and did not have all that exposure that the kids do now.

Sorry for the t/j, Liz. I think it all goes hand and hand with feeling pretty though. Everyone has different views on pretty I think.

Are you serious? I thought you were the one with that huge MAC collection. Is that somebody else? FTR I think you are gorgeous without makeup anyway but I'm just confused now, LOL.

I feel naked without makeup. But it really stems from skin issues when I was younger and it is taking a long time to get over that. But I just feel better with some makeup on so I stick with it.

ITA with having different views. And re: the makeup thing, I *feel* better when I wear it so for me it is pretty. But I know many that don't and they actually feel weird with makeup on so for them it would be the total opposite.

Neither of my sisters wear makeup but my mom always did. Always! I have always loved makeup but I'm much more into a natural look than I used to be. My sisters look beautiful without it but that is their normal, kwim? I feel like if people saw me without it they'd be like WHOA! Are you sick? LOL

Exercising
A great pair of shoes/boots
Pedicure
Doing my hair and makeup
Strolling around NYC solo on my lunch break
Shopping with Natalie

And none of these things have anything to do with confidence. Like Sonya, I am a confident person in general. I wear makeup and straighten my hair because it makes ME feel good. I would be fine leaving the house sans makeup, but I like to look put together. I think small things you can do for yourself is one of the keys to internal joy and happiness (and feeling pretty). Doing for others is extemely important, of course, but that's for another thread! smile.gif

ugh, I must be the queen of being misunderstood.

I think doing for others does have to do with internal joy and happiness. It is ok to disagree, but just because that is now how one person obtains it does not mean there are others who do not. I guess I am confused as to why it is for another thread or why anyone here thinks that is not what she meant. The question was how do you make yourself feel pretty.

LOL - I hadn't even read your posts before I responded!  But, now that I reread, I understand what you are saying - some people wear makeup, others help others - these can both make people feel pretty and can certainly be discussed in the same thread.

I have a very weird self vision. I am constantly shocked that I am not as thin as I think or as pretty as I think I am. lmao.

It's useful to be delusional sometimes.

But I digress, things that make me feel pretty are finding clothes that fit properly, showering (lmao- i'm so lazy). Putting on jewelry helps.

I don't feel great with makeup on since I don't have a clue what I am doing with it so I always feel fake.

When I exercise, I always feel great about myself.

Liz, you are such a beautiful person in so many ways. I am sad you don't feel wonderfully about yourself. You deserve to. I hope you find the things that make you feel gorgeous.

Sonya - That is so me!! I'm shocked when I go around a corner and bump something because my butt and hips are bigger than I believe that they are.

A great accessory.

Today I wore a ton because we had our family pictures done, but I wore this big gaudy ring, and felt like a star.

Exercising, taking care of myself, getting pampered (massage, facial, pedicure, etc.), putting my favorite pair of jeans and heels on, love wearing make-up but I'm not the type who wears make-up in the gym or grocery store lol so it's not an every day thing for me...

It can also vary day to day... different things make me feel "pretty" on different days.... depends on the mood I guess wink

LMAO...this happens ALL.THE.TIME! I'll be dressed to go somewhere thinking, hey I don't look half bad...then some damn body posts a pic on FB or emails me a pic with me in it...then I'm like jawdrop.gif am I REALLY that fat? Stoopid pictures.

the pretty part...yeah I don't worry about that...my self esteem in general isn't good. I don't think I EVER really thought I was pretty...which is WHY i wear makeup.
