We have 3 doors going outside. The one in the kitchen has a deep freezer in front of it so not worried about that one. The other 2 have locks at the top of the door just to keep Raven in. She has never tried going outside by herself but you never know.
And HOLY CRAP about that bridge!!!! I would freak out-thank GOD that boy is ok.
We don't have any special locks and I know Anna can get out by herself. She does have a hard time with the bolt, which we do use at night, but she can do it. IDT Kate can yet. Kate doesn't even get out of bed except during naptime to come tell me if she has poop and needs to be changed (yet she won't use the potty-argh).
Anna goes to the bathroom and back. So far no trying to do anything else, but who knows. I did a little sleepwalking as a kid (not often) and that is what scares me more than anything.
Anna does try to go outside by herself during the day if I am not ready to go yet, and the few times she has tried, it hasn't been pretty. The first time was the time she ended up closing the door on Kate and Kate fell off the front stoop. The other time, she got in trouble and put into time out and VERY sternly told to NEVER do it again. I am not sure she understands, and I don't want to frighten her, but we do not live in a neighborhood that I feel is safe and secure. Not that we have had any trouble, but you never know. She thinks it is because she could fall and get hurt while I am not out there, but otherwise doesn't get it. She is testing her limits on that.
We do want to replace our front door though, so maybe we will see about putting a high bolt on the new one to make sure they can't open it.
I dont do anything to keep the kids in..they havent ever tried to escape.
So I had called the after hours pedi clinic monday night bc daniel had 102.6 fever. they said from symptoms it sounded like the H1N1. Other than the fever, which has been fine today, and some nasal congestion and moist cough, he seems fine really. A little run down, but not SICK, which makes me wonder if it really was flu.
ihni. if he continues to not have a fever then he'll go back to school tomorrow.
Oh boy. I am so sorry, Chele-I hope he is better soon. Keep us posted!!!
We used to have a deadbolt with just a latch but when Jake was 2ish changed that to a keyed deadbolt and hang the key up on a hook. All doors are always locked at our house. We have gotten lax about putting the key on the up high hook.
A couple of weekends ago when DH was gone fishing and Little John was gone to a karate event - both the little ones were napping. So I went out into the garage and cleaned it and then got on the eliptical. When I went through the garage door back into the house I heard the front door slam. I was scared out of my mind! I come around the corner and it was Jake . . . . he woke up, couldn't find me and went out the front door!!
Well, i'm not holding my breath on this house viewing for today.
they got there before I left (they were an hour early - thank god i was just about to leave anyway) and it was a 60ish yr old woman driving a mercedes.
Henry is old enough to go in and out of the house (to the yard) if he wants but he is my permission-asker.
"Mama, can I go to the bathroom?" "Mama, can I eat my breakfast now?" (while he is sitting at the table with it in front of him) "Mama, can I close my eyes?" (when I check on him after he goes to bed)
He would never leave without asking me first.
Mark usually asks too. At night, we lock the security door, and Mark hasn't mastered the unlocking of that one yet. He can't reach the button to open the garage so if he went in the garage, he'd be stuck in there or else he'd just come back inside. He can go in the backyard if he wants. We have a privacy fence and a padlock on the gate.
Also, whenever either of them wakes up at night, they automatically come into my room and get in my bed.

I helped Mark's preschool class to make footprints with white paint on black paper. They're going to be ghosts.
Then I went to Henry's school and volunteered in the library. After I was done with the assigned project, I looked up some books that we've been reading to see if they were in the school's database. I also needed to see if they were Henry's reading level.
After that, I came home to do some laundry.
Then I went back to Mark's preschool a little early to see if they needed a special reader for the day. Another mom was supposed to read but she didn't show so I read to Mark's class.
Right now, we're waiting for Mark's friend Cole to come over and play. Cole's sister is home with a stomach bug so his mom was hesitant to let him come over. BUT Mark was at school all morning with Cole so I don't see that playing with him more would be any worse.
We've got church dinner and activities later this evening.
i'd love to take a nap on the couch, but every time i close my eyes, one of my kids yells "NO CLOSE YOUR EYES, MOMMY!" and tries to poke me in the eye.
i wonder how much longer i have to wait until i get to nap after school.

Halifax is a penisula and there are only 5 major ways into the downtown. They just closed one of the ways in for major repairs and traffic is pure chaos.
It is going on until February (at least).
Chaos.
In my world now, we get up, get ready and walk over to the daycare. No chaos (except for the regular toddler/preschooler kind).
