Wanted: Good pie crust recipe
Permalink

A couple of years ago, I used a great pie crust recipe. It was super easy--just pop ingredients into the food processor, pulse, and it came together really nice.

And now I can't find it! I have another recipe, I thought it was the same one but it doesn't say to use a food processor and I tried it that way but it's really crumbly. Bakes fine but very hard to roll out.

Anyone have one they recommend? I don't have a pastry blender so I need something I can do another way, like the food processor.

Thanks in advance!

this makes 2 9" crusts...

1 stick margarine (1/2 cup)
1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup) (i like to start with butter & marg frozen - keeps the crust flakey)
2 1/4 cups flour
3/4 teaspoon salt

combine dry ingredients in food processor until well blended.  dice frozen butter & margarine & add to food processor pulsing until butter is the size of small peas.  add up to 5 tablespoons ice water, pulsing until dough is the right consistency.

remove from food processor & divide into 2 balls.  roll between waxed or parchment paper until desired size.  handle as little as possible before baking.

Totally not what you wanted, but the Pilsbury Pie Crusts in the fridgerated section top anything I've (and all my friends) have tried to make.

Thanks April!

Stacey, I like Pillsbury too. But after trying homemade crust, it's hard to go back--same with pizza dough.
