i know we've talked about this before, but i can't find the thread so i'm guessing it was before the move.
has anyone here had this done?
i'm going for a consult on tuesday and seriously considering it. i hate that i have to wait 3 months for it to be effective. i'll have to find out what else we can use in the meantime (i don't do well with condoms).
I had thought about it (for when we are sure we are done, not now) before Bill said he absolutely did not want me to do anything permanent, but never really got any info on it.
I'll be anxious to hear about it though!! I guess you can't use anything hormonal while you wait for it to be effective? There is always a diaphragm-I would think that would be simple enough (with spermicide though-can you tolerate spermicide?)
Hmmm..what else could you use...
Well, I would HIGHLY recommend you start charting. Get the TCOYF software or use FF online and track your cycles. Unless the procedure messes up that process (IHNI if it would), I would think your body's changes would still happen the same way. That is actually pretty effective if ou pay attention to the cervical fluid as well as taking temps, and you can even figure out the position and feel of your cervix for added measure. Then you could limit the BC to times you knew you needed it during those months.
How do they know it has been effective? I mean, with the men it is easy to figure out, but how do they know with women?
i have an IUD now, so idt charting would work. :dunno:
3 months after it's placed, they do a dye injection in the fallopian tubes and x-ray it. they make sure that they cannot see the dye on the other side of the blockage.
i'll update this thread after my consult next week.
i'm probably about 70/30 on doing it right now. with my iud, i get basically no period - 1-2 days SUPA light and that is it. i am dreading returning to a 7 day heavy flow cycle. BOO!
April, I have no idea about the procedure, but I do have a possible alternative for temporary bc. Have you ever used the sponge? Granted it has been quite a long time ago, but I used it. I actually found it to not be that bad and fairly easy to use. It is not my preferred method but in your situation it may work. :dunno:
I thought about it when I am for sure done, but then I like having no periods. So I may just IUD myself through to menopause.
However, I heard that it is easy and effective! It is a great new option and for temporary BC you got me. I have no idea. I am sure you think your dh is spongeworthy, but make sure to use a spermicide in conjunction with any barrier methods.
My doctor was telling me about Essure as well, but I am with you April, I wouldn't want a 3 month waiting period before we were sure if it was working 100%. And in the mean time you would have a very high risk of having an ectopic pregnancy. I'll be getting a tubal ligation after this baby, but the Essure was on my list of "maybe" for a while. I hope you can get some concrete info on it so you can make a more informed decision for you and your family. I am sooo not looking forward to having periods after this baby....yuck. LOL Ahh the luxury of having no AF.....

Is there no way Matt will have a V? Seems so easy, and considering how absolutely dead set against it Bill was, I just figure if he can come around, anyone could!
Sucks about going back to periods though. In your shoes, i would want to keep the IUD as long as possible just for that.

Are you sure you don't want DH to get a vasectomy? You don't have a very good history with birth control methods working for you. ;)
My friend that was pregnant with twins when I was pregnant with Owen got pregnant again AFTER having her tubes tied!!! Can you imagine! The twins were already 4 and 5 for her!

i know someone who got pregnant with #4 after having her tubes tied after #3
Bill always was too-he said guys who had it done were no longer men.
However, he finally agreed that he would do it when the time comes. I know he doesn't like the idea, but he also knows it is an easier procedure for him than it is for me, and he knows that sterilization (at least tubals-IDK about essure) for women can bring about more difficult periods, which would be bad on several levels (like he would have to live with me, first of all, and also because hormone fluctuations cause me problems with UC-the worse my period is, the worst my UC symptoms are) and he doesn't want me to go through that.
Really, you should do whatever you both feel comfortable with, and obviously you know whether or not he will bend on this, but I really think that if the woman is going to take care of the birth control for sooooo many years, as we all do, plus carry and give birth to the babies, the least the man can do is this. I don't say that to be mean, but I think the guys should buck up and take one for the team as well! Our bodies go through enough...

ita.
i have brought it up a few times and haven't gotten anywhere.
he is convinced that making that physical change to his body is going to somehow change HIM.
i know that is completely irrational and seriously, he is not normally an idiot, but i just can't get him to budge on this. and i'm tired of trying. :sigh:

Well, you are a nicer wife than I am, lol!! I would not give in on this-no way, no how! IDC if it did change Bill somehow (which it won't, of course-lol), *I* have been through enough.
Could you keep the IUD for a few more years and see if you can talk to him then? Time can sometimes change people's minds about these things. (unless, of course, you don't mind going through the procedure-then I say go for it)

My Aunt got pg with #6 after having her tubes tied.
You really only have 1-2 days for your cycle with the IUD!? Mine are 10-14 right now and I'm supposed to go on the pill but I hate it so much I've been putting it off. The reason I didn't go the IUD route is because I was told I can't use my Diva Cup with one and I could never go back to tampons. Ugh!!

i think you were asking me about the period - and yup! i went from 7ish days of heavy flow (multiple super plus tampons per day) to almost nothing. tmi - i have brown spotting that never turns red. some months i wake up spotting and it is gone by the afternoon.
every once in a while i'll have a few days of bleeding, but for the most part, i have no period compared to before.
i'm pretty sure it was tab who also got the mirena and she doesn't get any period at all! it's fairly common to not have one with mirena.

ITTTTA...my periods are hell now, and they weren't a joyride before. (Of course, I totally regret the tubal and would advise against it for reasons that aren't "normal" also, since my experience just plain wasn't okay...but I really do agree with what you said, Supa, about our bodies going through enough as it is! As glad as I am to be done having kids, I wholeheartedly regret my tubal.)

Really Mel? This makes me sad to know.
Why do you regret it? ITU if you don't want to answer. (sorry for the t/j, Apies)
I know everyone's experiences are different, and OF COURSE everyone has a right to do what they feel most comfortable with and what works for their family, but after everything we women go through to get the children here in the first place, I hate the idea of any of us having to deal with any more side effects or residual damage from this.
Why does he say he is against it? Just curious. I have Rich signed up to go meet with the urologist. Does Matt want more ?
like supa's bill used to say, matt has always said that it's like taking away his manhood - that he would no longer be the same person, etc etc.
but surprisingly, tonight when we were, ahem, laying in bed, i was telling him a couple of hilarious stories about my bil and his experience with his v last week and he made a comment that he hadn't ruled it out.
so with that on the table, i'm holding off on the essure and hoping that he comes around. i think with SO many people around us having them (both of my bff's husbands and now my bil too), i think that he's starting to see another side.
i'll reevaluate in a few years when my iud needs to be replaced. :)
