in case anyone else wants them :)

i have tried a different sugar cookie recipe every year for the past 6 or 7 years and always think they turn out just ok.

NOT NO MO!

this year, i tried this alton brown recipe:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/reci..._25187,00.html

it is THE BEST.

i have not iced them yet (i plan on using his royal icing at the bottom of that link to do them tomorrow - i'll follow up and take pics when i do), but these cookies turned out amazing! they are beautiful! and they are supa delicious.

a few tips based on my experience -

after reading the reviews, i went ahead and added a splash of vanilla. i think it really enhanced the flavor.

i know megan would disagree (giggle.gif), but i used the powdered sugar for rolling. the main reason i went that route (instead of rolling between parchment like megan does) is b/c the reviews said that the cookies weren't very sweet. i thought that the powdered sugar would add a little sweetness to them (and i think it did).

i bought a 1/4" wood dowel at michael's tonight to keep the cookies uniform. i think it made a BIG difference.

i baked them for 3 minutes, turned the tray and then finished with another 4 minutes. they are nice and light and even and just a touch of golden brown - exactly how i'd like for them to turn out.

they are hard to roll out at first - keep at it and you'll get there.

i hope this helps someone else!
