today was my first shopping trip to the grocery store since i started previewing the ads and ordering coupons.
i ordered $5 worth of coupons last sunday.
i normally spend between $300 and 350 every 2 weeks or so between the grocery store and bj's ().
today, between meal planning, sales at the store and coupons, i spent $91 at the grocery store instead of my normal $150. the bottom of my receipt said i saved $53 in sales and coupons. i have my list made for bj's later and i will spend $40 there and today's shopping will last us until the 15th of october (not including runs to the farm stand for produce).

thanks liz!
a couple of things really helped me - i made a list and REALLY stuck to it, outside of 1 or 2 things that i forgot to put on there. and finding out chicken breast was 99c a pound (with a coupon in the circular that they had at customer service) and ice cream was 99c per half gallon (same as the chicken with the coupon) covered those extras.
the other thing that really helped is that my store has online shopping. so what i do is fill my cart online with everything i need. it gives me a running total at the bottom that doesn't include coupons. i love that b/c now i know EXACTLY what i will spend when i get there. i print that cart and take it to the store as my list. today, my online cart said $110 and i ended up spending $91 after coupons, etc (and that included the extra things i forgot).
also, it is SO important to keep a good inventory of what you're out of at home. i thought i did a good job with that today, but i forgot applejuice. :duh: now i have to go get that tomorrow.
but still, even if i can only get one trip per month down like this, it's saving us a HUGE amount of money - at least $150!
