I feel the same way...but we do have the tag reader.  It is really nice!  I think that it is something that can grow with your child...but if Rachel is already reading, I am not sure - Ivy likes it alot and she is not reading yet.

R can read but she's not all that interested. she figured out how to read really early and now seems to be taking a break from the whole thing, though if i ask her to read a word, she'll do it.  since she's not showing a natural interest right now, i havent been pressing it.  i am sure the interest will come back, and it's still so early!

what does it do, just like follows along the words adn reads the book outloud? clueless over here.

it has sounds when you touch the page with the pen (it will also read the whole page if you press a button)....so weird to explain.  if you want, when don gets home, I can take a short vid of it w/ ivy.  she has two books right now...that could get expensive as each book costs around 14.00 (you buy the book and download the audio into the pen and the pen holds up to 5 books at a time - the newer ones hold 10.

[video=View this montage created at One True Media
tag reader

Kelly....here is what it looks like, etc.  (it was really hard to show b/c she usually likes to do more with it than just read the pages, but of course, when I am taping her she doesn't :eyeroll

fwiw, I like it alot...but I would  not have paid $50 for it.

first of all she is so so so cute.
and i love the baskets in the background. lol.
thanks for videoing this. i totally get it now. i was envisioning that you had to pass the pen over each word for it to read - and i thought it was more of a sound-out kind of thing.  got it. tysm!!

I went to a school fundraiser with a girlfriend earlier this week.  They had a silent auction.  They had the tag reader (the one that holds 5), a case and 3 additional books.  I bid on it and won it for $45.  I thought I hit the jackpot but after reading all the deals that can be had with coupons, etc. I'm thinking I didn't get such a great deal!

I am saving it back for an x-mas present for Jake.
