Good morning!

Do you remember having the 'sex talk' with your parents? How did they handle it?

GM!

OMG, yes.  Horrible.  I was thirteen and my mom and I were watching Oprah.  It was something about pregnant teens and she turned to me and said "if you start having sex, I need to know and we will go get you birth control".

That's it.  I nearly died.  Not to mention, I had no intention of having sex at all and did not for many years.  I learned most of the rest in sex ed, from friends (super reliable and of course accurate from imaginative middle-schoolers)

I for sure need to make it a more natural conversation in this house so my boys don't exsperience that trauma, lol.

Kind of.

If by "sex talk" you mean my mom yelling, "Don't do it, or you'll go to Hell." Which is odd since my sister got pregnant at 16, so she should have known that wasn't working.

Morning!

My Mom found me watching an illicit movie when I was around 5. She went out and bought Where Did I Come From. We read it and that is pretty much the extent of it. My Mom is totally open and all my friends talked to her about anything, but I was always embarassed. It was even hard to tell her when I got my first period. So far I don't see that being an issue in this house.

The closest thing we ever had to a sex talk was when I got pregnant and had to tell them.

That was one of the things I vowed would be different with my children: I would be there for them and talk to them each step of the way about this stuff. I've already had to start talking with Danielle about breast buds, hormones, etc (I'm thinking she's going to start her periods this year- yikes!!)

My parents NEVER talked about any of that stuff; nothing about drugs, sex, none of it. I want it to be something that is normal and no big deal to talk about, so we talk about it often and with little fanfare.

Was it on Cinemax? I got pulled into that more than once when I was a pre-teen (that's pretty much how I learned about sex).

I turned on HBO the other day, and there was a crazy explicit show on. I have never before considered using the parental control, but you better believe I figured that out and set it this week.

I didn't tell George the code, and hopefully he never has to ask for it biggrin

I dont remember it. I know I had a book about where babies came from like in 1st grade so it must have been before then.

Also I had sex ed in the 8th grade but knew pretty much everything by then.

And my neighbor/ring bearers mother was a nurse and (im not sure if my mom asked her to or she took it upon herself) talked to me about different lubes and such and told me I could ask any questions I had as well as gave me a book called the Act of Marriage.

Those were all the "talks" Ive had regarding the subject.

We never had "the talk." Nada.

In 5th grade, it was mandatory in the elementary school to watch some video on sex ed and reproduction.
And then began health classes in middle class about abstinence and reproduction.

Never once did my parents give me any sort of talk. Just, "If you have sex, I'll kill you." And I believed my mother too. She probably would have. Too bad it didn't hold true for my brother. I would have totally loved his room.....

I remember my first period- my mom laughed b/c I was so freaked out. Like, "OMG! OMG! I'm hemorrhaging to death! OMG! I'm going to die." kind of freak out. And she laughed and thought it was hysterical. And then tried to push tampons on me which freaked me out even worse.
I spent the rest of the day with my then BFF who was totally understanding. Her mom was super cool too. She took me to Wal-Mart and bought me pads in the kind she thought I'd like. She didn't laugh or anything. Even gave me Midol to help with the cramps, too.

Oh! I'm so excited! Tonight is WoW! Wednesday at our new church. I cannot wait to go! Its awesome. Colin's in what they call Building Blocks. heart.gif Its like preschool choir. He loves it. It gives DH and I like 50 minutes of time to socialize with other adults. Then its dinner. Then the children all go to nursery and the grown folks go to their WoW! class.

I can't wait. I love it at our new church. DH even made a new friend...And that's not easy for him b/c he isn't the chattiest guy around.
And the grandmas all love Adelaide. One even offered to take her for a bit so that we could eat and help clean up. She took her and I had a complete freak out b/c I'm not used to it. But Addie was just fine.
Ugh. Everyone else has me calling her Addie. I usually just call her "girlfriend."
And Saturday my "preferred mom" and her husband (we jokingly call him uncle dad or sometimes grandpa even though he is a year younger than DH) are coming out for the night! SOOOOO excited for that too.

I know when I was really little we had a book about how babies were made that just talked about the egg and how it was fertilized and grew into a baby.  That wasn't enough for me so I think I was four or five and asked my mom how babies were made.  I do remember I was in her bedroom talking to her and how she explained that the man inserted.....  She was very matter of fact.  I could always talk to her about it.  I asked her questions about all sorts of things while I was growing up, including oral sex.  I do think this was a good approach and I think I was one of the last ones to have sex.

Tracy we had that fifth grade movie too.  I about died.  I was one of the very unlucky girls to start my period that year and of course it was before the movie.  I was so totally embarrassed and freaking out about having a period.  So the day came for the movie.  Low and behold, of all the names they could have picked for the girl that starts her period, they picked Libby!  I can not tell you how horrible that was.  Of course then every girl was asking me if I started my period.  Not a fun time. disbelief

That sounds like a great evening!  I am glad you have found a church that you really like and fits your family. biggrin

I don't really remember, but probably.  I think it's better known as Skinemax.

GM ladies

No sex talk when I was a child.  It was something that was covered at church, never one on one.

The tilers downstairs keep calling one guy "Sookie Stackhouse"

I wonder why. Is it rude to go down and make them explain why to me? lol

(I know who sookie is but not why they are calling the dude that. Because he has a preference for over acting vampires? Because he reads minds? Do you think he is reading my mind right now? Think pure thoughts think pure thoughts.....)
