we went to ole miss, so we are rebel fans in this house.
they suck, traditionally, so this is a super exciting year for us since they've been ranked in the top 10 since the preseason and they're #5 right now.
we rarely get to go to a game since we don't live near oxford, but they play mississippi state in the turkey bowl every year on the friday after thanksgiving when we're visiting my in-laws so we need to start making an effort to take the kids to that game.
April - I went to the University of Memphis/Ole Miss game two Sundays ago.
Of course, we got CREAMED.
It was so HOT and crowded and miserable but still kinda fun to be in the middle of all the action.
You should have been there.
We sat near the Ole Miss band, and they were really good.
The people with me did not care to hear my opinion of the Ole Miss band.
Those Ole Miss people go all out--with the dressing up, elaborate "tail-gate" party areas . . . I think there were more Ole Miss fans there than U of M fans.
Enjoy? I suppose, in the same way I "enjoy" oxygen. It's a downright need.
Do you have a favorite team?
My beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers are far and away my #1 team. However, for reasons I will soon get into and because they are also my alma mater, the Texas Longhorns are my #2 team. (But make no mistake, when Texas plays Nebraska, there is NO conflict in my heart. )
How are they doing so far?
Nebraska suffered a last-minute, soul-crushing loss to Virginia Tech yesterday. I rarely get super emotional about football, but damn, this one was tough. In all, though, they're looking pretty good -- certainly moving back in the right directions.
Texas is... Texas. Which means that from a perennial standpoint, they have every advantage to pretty much dominate college football. (Money, geography.) It also means they will squander it and lose a game they shouldn't. I hate to say it, but I think Oklahoma is going to take them out of the national running in the Red River Rivalry this year (if they don't lose some other game first).
Do you and your dh have opposing teams?
My husband is a Colorado Buffalo. Those of you who are familiar with Big XII football knows what a problem it is -- they are our biggest rival. (Oklahoma and Texas are also Nebraska rivals, but at least there, there's also a mutual respect for a storied program. With Colorado, it's pure venom, piss and vinegar.) The rivalry is so intense it actually kind of sucks -- which is why Texas is our compromise team. (Although if Nebraska ever makes a national championship game again, I'm going -- and his ass is staying at home!)
Do you ever go to the games?
We try to go to a game a year, given that we live in Austin. I'm actually hoping to go to the Texas v. Texas A&M game in College Station this year. If the Cornhuskers make the Big XII championship, we'll go to Dallas for that. (Or at least my parents and I will.)
Do your kids enjoy watching and/or rooting for your team?
Yes, to the extent their young attention span permits. We've compromised in raising them Longhorns fans; however, my parents are here and huge Husker fans, and they don't share my need for diplomacy, LOL. Alexandra is constantly asking Damon why he doesn't like the Huskers. Meanwhile, my MIL is teaching the girls to say "go Buffs!"

I saw the #5 ranking, and thought of you. That is exciting!
(I also thought it was possibly a mistake -- LOL!)

Crazy.
um yes.
the other crazy thing about the football games in oxford is they get SO dressed up - girls in dresses and heels and guys in shirts and ties.
the first game i went to in jeans and a sweatshirt and felt like a total dumbass.
there is a guy in oxford who has a business - the entire business revolves around setting up tents in the grove at like 2am on the day of games (b/c they're not allowed to set up until that morning). people pay hundreds of dollars for his services.

omg, i snorted.
RIGHT?!!? so crazy that they're pulling their crap together this year.
Pretty much everyone here roots for U of M, but I only do when I have no other choice. I support home teams, but I am all green and white, Spartans, MSU. They are not the best football team, but I love them. Heck, after cheering on Detroit year after year, I can pretty much have faith in any team, lol. I was so bummed that they lost to Notre Dame :(
My Dh went to a small private college so he is not really a true die hard alum. I mean he always is U of M. He likes to watch USC.
We have not gone to a ton of games the last few years. I have done a ton of tailgating at MSU.
Allie does not really know college football teams, but does know all our pro teams sch as Lions, Tigers, Wings. She has a MSU and U of M cheerleading outfit. Mia is actually sporting U of M pj's tonight!

Do you enjoy college football? You could say that, LOL. Like Tex, it's just a part of life in our house.
Do you have a favorite team? University of Illinois Fighting Illini!!!
How are they doing so far? Meh. 1-1, but we play Ohio State next weekend in Columbus. It's likely not going to be pretty.
Do you and your dh have opposing teams? Nope!
Do you ever go to the games? Sadly, no. I had season passes for my first 3 years of college, and went to the Rose Bowl in 2007, but haven't been to a regular season game in 13 years!
Do your kids enjoy watching and/or rooting for your team? Yes, Mason loves watching football with us. He asks to watch the Illini and gets sad when they aren't playing, LOL.

Do you have a favorite team? OSU BUCKEYES, of course
How are they doing so far? Eh - soso. so pissed off they did not beat USC. grr.
Do you and your dh have opposing teams? not at all - being french he has no interest. that said, he will root for the bucks when a game is on. but we fight over the TV big time if there is a rugby match on at the same time.
Do you ever go to the games? i wish...
Do your kids enjoy watching and/or rooting for your team? timmy does. clara has a buckeyes cheerleader costume she loves wearing around the house :)
