i haven't had a "daily" sheet since she moved into the 3yr old room at the old school. at first, i found that very odd.
in K4, we have a biweekly newsletter, but it does not address the children specifically. i tend to pick her up early, and so i have a chance to talk to the teacher. of course, some schools prefer you not do this. but there is rarely a discussion of the day unless there is something pertinent. (like: today we had to dismantle the playground equipment to dislodge your child's knee).
we can communicate with the teachers by email or schedule conferences. there are supposed to be 2 conferences a year although last year i had no conferences.
i'm ok with that because i talk with them enough that there isn't anything i'm concerned about.
this year, we have ms. brown again and she is meticulously organized, so although there is no standard daily communication, i have a lot of details on the teachers' schedules and the overall class schedule.
they post the weeks lesson plan in the room and i *personally* wish i could get that in an email every week.
i will say a lesson or two from the day is usually on the whiteboard.
i super love her school though. and yesterday she sang me like 5 new songs and i loved it even more.
Our school has take home folders but there is NEVER anything from the teacher about Lucas specifically. It's for flyers from school and any paperwork that needs to be filled out by parents. I use it to ask questions though. Seems like I have one at least once a week. Wonder if the teacher is like "STOP ASKING QUESTIONS"
Lucas is a carpool kid and EVERY once in a while his teacher will say something like "Lucas needs to work on listening" or please "talk to Lucas about this" but that's about it.
In Lucas' class there are 20 kids and a teacher and an assistant teacher.
Oh I forgot, I did get a call from the teacher one time before Lucas was out of uniform. They had a spirit day and had sent home a note saying that the kids could wear school colored shirts OR bulldog shirts. So I took that to be a shirt with a bulldog on it... so I sent him in a nonschool colored shirt with a bulldog on it. Turns out it was against policy. It had to be a bulldog shirt that was school colored... The teacher apologized for the poorly worded note (that was not written by her) and they changed him into his spare uniform shirt.
ETA they get progess reports every so often. I think the first one is next week and there are parent teacher conferences a few times a year... either 2 or 4. I can't remember.

last week on friday, we got a photocopied sheet that went to each of the parents in the class with what they had worked on that week (i already forgot what it said), but nothing personal.
monday of this week, the "communication journal" finally showed up in emily's folder (i say finally b/c it's the 3rd week of school and b/c i was sort of expecting it b/c the preschool teacher she was SUPPOSED to have this year told me she uses them). anyway, the teacher wrote a note about how affectionate emily is and that she's doing well adjusting to the new school routine. so far i have only written in it once (to tell them that we're working with emily to make her not so clingy with adults and to please try to do the same there and also to find out what her therapy schedule is). the teacher wrote down her therapy schedule the next day.
phew. i'm so glad i have a way to contact her regularly now.
oh, also, i emailed her to ask something about scholastic book ordering and she got back to me that morning, so that is apparently a good way to get her too.
