Hes behind in social and communication. He is getting a referal to have his hearing tested, speech therapy and were going to go to a specialist in san diego for an official evaluation to see if he is on the autism spectrum at all.
Thanks. Earlier I was super upset but am really hopefull hell catch up with some thnigs.
Im not afraid of a label or being said he has something. I kinda expected that. Just filling out the form of whether or not your child could do something and having to check not yet for about 70 percent of it was hard.

Tracy, would you mind expanding on the things he is not doing, where they think he is behind?
I know you said he is lacking in communication and I am not kidding when I said Gavin was not talking at 18 months. I think he said dada and uh oh and I think that is it. He really didn't talk until he was a lot closer to 3.
But I am glad that they are on the ball and being proactive. No matter what the outcome, early intervention is great and ITA that there shouldn't be labels even if there is a diagnosis. He is your sweet perfect little Raym no matter what.
And I am glad, like Jen said, that they are being proactive, but I also agree as far as speech, he is young yet. Anna was evaluated at almost 3 because she was talking so little.
I'm so sorry you're going through this. I hope you get some good answers with the testing, and I am sure that whatever therapy he may need will do wonders for him. :hugs
LMK if you want to meet up while you're in San Diego. :)
18 mos is such a tough age. there's such a huge range of normal. some kids are carrying on a whole discussion, and some are saying dada and mama, and both are still in normal limits.
sounds like, as always, you are taking things in stride. this is something i have always admired you for. good luck sweetie.
Good for you for being pro-active. Braydon didn't speak until close to three and he was eventually put on the spectrum. You'd never know it now though, but I'm so glad he got so much early intervention.
Carter (19m) just started doing the body parts in the past couple of weeks. He only says uh-oh, yay, mama, and just recently no. I was worried about his lack of speech, but my dr said he's completely normal and not to worry.

Kelly - this is SOOOOOO true and I've had both. Thankfully the one that talked much earlier came second otherwise I would have been so much more worried with Gavin.
Early intervention is great but you are so right that 18 month is such a tough age!!!
