My upper arms are *always* in the midst of a breakout and I can't figure out wtf I should be doing differently.
My first thought was that it had to do with my shampoo or soap, but I've changed both of those things (I use a sensitive skin wash anyway) and nothing has gotten better. We're talking 18 months-2 years of constant breakouts of varying severity.
It's all on the outside of my arms, usually from just below my shoulder to about halfway between my shoulder and my elbow, but right now it's almost down to my elbows. I hate it. The bumps aren't red unless something irritates them, but I'd cringe if anyone tried to touch my arms just b/c I'm that embarrassed about it, and I wear a LOT of sleeveless shirts/tanks from May-September.
Ideas/thoughts? Has anyone had anything like that? I don't remember my arms breaking out like that before kids, and definitely not constantly. It doesn't seem as bad in winter, which makes me think it has something to do with temperature as well as whatever else triggers it.
Are they not so much like pimples with heads on them but more like red bumps. Like a blackhead texture?
If so I have had this same thing. It started in my 20's when I started gaining weight.
I went to a dermatologist and I'm trying to remember what she said it was. Maybe almost like a fungus. Anyway she gave me some cream which I never used because you have to keep your skin totally out of the sun while you're using it. No excuse I know but I was young and wanted to be outside.
Anyway it eventually went away but I had it for years. Now the skin is smooth but I have little red spots there where they were.
I have had times when I have dealt with this. It was worse when I was younger, and definitely a lot worse if I picked at it (which I did-I am a picker).
Mine has gotten better with age, and with ignoring the impulse to pick, but I did just see that proactive is coming out with a body wash type of soap. Maybe something like that would be a good place to start? IDK how senstive your skin is-but I know there are a number of body washes with acne medicine in them-I would try one and see if it made a difference.
Good luck-it is hard not to be able to wear tanks and such because of this kind of thing.
I am wondering if it could be the same thing as Meghan (and so many other people I know have now that I found out it exists!). It's called Keratosis Pilaris.
Her "rash" presents as tiny white bumps that are all over the outside of her arms (this is the most common place). There isn't much you can do for it besides exfoliating and maybe taking a trip to a dermatologist for special lotion.
Here's a website that describes it in better detail. It's VERY common.

Wow, that is TOTALLY me! Thanks, Di! (And ty KDrew and Supa too, for your input -- I wish nobody had to deal with aggravations like that, but at the same time, it's nice to not be alone)
