Just Made Our Wills
Permalink

Not fun to think about, but since we'll be going to Hawaii in October I thought it needed to be done as when we did our last one we only had Kaylin.

I used Legal Zoom and it only took 10 minutes.  With the $10 off using the code Laura, the basic will was $59.

I've been meaning to do this for a long time but kept forgetting so I just thought this could be a reminder for someone else.  I guess August is make a will month.

was it really that easy to do it yourself?

We've been putting it off for lack of a lawyer. EJ has an option to sign up for legal coverage through work when he renews his benefits in the fall so we were going to wait until then.

But really, I'd love to just get it done.

That is a great deal.  We spent a fortune having ours done when I was pregnant with Anna but I think we need to redo them since so much has changed with our parents since then.

It really was that easy.  Fill in a few blanks and it's done.  You can then do a mirror one for your spouse and it pretty much fills it in for you.  Easy peasy.

I'm glad you posted this. We need to do this.

How does the online thing manage setting up trusts and things like that? How did you handle the financial stuff? Does everything go to your kids, but in trust with their guardians until they reach a certain age or something? What about your house and all? Does your estate go to your guardians or your kids? Sorry if I am hounding you, I just am not sure how all of this works with the do it yourself things. I want most everything to go to the kids for when they are older, but don't want to leave our guardians high and dry while they would be raising our kids. (financially speaking) And we have so many different accounts for both us and the kids-I just am not sure how all of that would work...but I would love to not have pay a lawyer to do this and actually get it done!!!

I set it up so if one of us goes before the other then either of us is the sole heir.  If we both go when the kids are young, we have it set up in a trust until they are 21, with the guardians having control over the estate until they each reach that age.

It's all laid out and lets you do all of that very easily.
