I think you can do pretty much anything you want.  You might start by going from a hobby or interest she has in something or a favorite vacation spot and use it for a theme.

Without knowing her, here are a few ideas:

Black and white party: decorate in black and white, have black and white photos of her around, have copies of newspaper articles from the day, month, year she was born.

Have a fifties party and theme it similar to a sock hop.  You could make 45 records to hang, play the music, dress like in the 50's, do a ice cream sundae bar a makeshift soda fountain, etc.

Tropical paradise: Lots of fun tropical fruity drinks and food, grass skirts to pass out at the door along with leis, fill a wading pool with floating candles, play Jimmy Buffet, limbo, and have a volcano birthday cake

It's really hard to say what she might like without knowing her.  I also don't know how many people will be involved and how big you really want the party.  I think it is awesome that you are willing to do this.  Let us know what you are thinking and then we can help you expand more on it.

She is a hippie at heart :)

We will have at least 50 people... maybe a little more but for sure about 50.

I am going to make a fondant cake-which is why I need ideas for themes..... if there was anything special for 60's.  Like 40 is black "over the hill" and 50 is the red hat lady (red/purple) but 60s I wasn't sure what since my parents havent hit the 60's yet LOL

I'm just at loss for decos or whatever...

Foodwise we are doing kabobs bar with all the fixings and peopel fix their own kabobs and bring potluck for sides.  Simple.

jar for fundraising/money towards whatever she wants.

Hope that helps brainstorm some?

Tiffany

Since she's a hippie @ heart...

What about something like this (a cake version, though.. they are super easy)... decorated with a big fondant peace sign on top, or even like this if you wanted something more original. Super bright, vibrant colors on the table tops, a few bouquets of Crazy Daisies (Idk what they are called everywhere, but here that's what they are called... super bright colored gerber daisies...)

You could go crazy with the whole Hippie vibe, man. (sorry, I was in the zone, lol)

LOL at you being in the zone... I love the tie dye cake!  But I dont think it'd fit her.  She is a hippie at heart but doesnt wear tie dyes or stuff like that.  She's just very eco-friendly with everything and works in the energy field doing energy work and cranium work.  You know those kind of stuff??

I think the 60's for 60 is an awesome idea!

I like the tye-dyed cakes Leah posted.  Music is a snap too.  This link for music is not bad because it is kind of in categories:

These are some actual songs (more related to the war but still popular)

I need to go do some things but don't forget the mini skirt, long hair, platform shoes and all of that for dress.  Also Flower Power was a big catch phrase and I am not sure but I think that's when VW bugs started to become popular.
