Favorite waffle recipe?

Please post it here!!!

We got a new waffle maker! (the VillaWare Barnyard one because it was on sale and I think the kids will love the farm shapes, lol.  I might be more excited than they are)

We are a pancake family here though, and while we have those down pat, waffles are just newish territory for us, especially ones that aren't belgian.  So I am looking for recipes and any tips you might have-we are going to try it out tommorrow!!!!

TIA!!!

Oooo!!!  We have one of those recipes that we have used in our belgian waffle iron!!! (the kind that you turn over, kwim?)

But they are not very sturdy waffles, and they just don't keep well.  It would be great if you have a crowd who will eat them as they are cooked, but re-heating them just isn't as good, kwim?  They are yummy, but not something we would do on a regular basis.

Bill probably knows where the recipe is if you want it!!

I just tried waffles for the first time yesterday.  They were just ok, but we don't have any syrup which probably would have made them much better.  I just put powdered sugar on them.  They aren't real sweet.  But, they were super easy, so I will post the recipe

Waffles

This is my very favorite waffle recipe. It came with the Toastmaster Waffle Iron that I purchased in the early 70's. The recipe is still being recommended by waffle iron companies. I received the following e-mail from Hazel in August 2001.

"I tried your recipe this morning and it is great. I then went out to buy a Belgian Waffle Baker and purchased a Toastmaster. The booklet that came with it stated that the Basic Waffle Recipe has pleased them so much through the years that they still recommend it. The two other recipes in the booklet are Belgian Waffles and White Wheat Waffles".

Hazel stated that the basic recipe in the new booklet is exactly as it is on this web site. Thanks for your comment, Hazel.

1 3/4 cup flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar 3 eggs 7 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 1/2 cups milk

Preheat the waffle iron. Sift the dry indredients into a medium sized bowl. Separate the eggs, putting the egg whites in smaller bowl. Beat the egg whites until they are stiff. (If you are using an electric mixer, you can beat the egg whites first, then beat the batter without having to wash the beaters. The reverse is not true. If you beat the batter first and you have to wash the beaters before beating the egg whites.) Add the egg yolks, oil and milk all at one time to the dry indredients. Beat until there are no lumps in the batter. Fold the egg whites into the other batter using a spatula or other flat utinsel. Put a full 1/2 cup of batter in your waffle iron to make a 9-inch round waffle. This recipe makes about eight 9 inch waffles.

If this recipe makes too many waffles for one setting, try freezing the waffles you do not eat. After the waffles have been cooked in the waffle iron, put them out on a cooling rack. When they are cool, place them in a plastic bag taking out as much air from the bag as possible. Then freeze the bag of waffles. The next time you want a quick waffle, microwave one from the freezer for about 45 to 60 seconds. They are almost as good as fresh waffles

Waffle family here!

The recipe I use:

2 eggs
2 cups flour
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil (or melted butter)
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 2/3 cups milk

Heat waffle iron. Beat eggs in medium bowl until fluffy. Beat in remaining ingredients just until smooth. Do not overmix. Pour batter onto center of hot waffle iron. Bake 5 minutes or until steaming stops. Remove carefully.

When I remember, I add a few drops of vanilla to the batter because it makes it smell so good.

Thanks Robin!!!

Bill used the Best Recipe cookbooks recipe this morning, and it was good, but the recipe calls for seperating the eggs and beating the whites and folding them in.  Blah.  I don't really feel like doing that.  Plus they were made with buttermilk, which is awesome in pancakes, but I didn't think added anything for the waffles.  i think I would actually prefer them just with regular sweet milk.

I think we will try this!!! (and I will definitely add vanilla!!)
