so here's a quick story about how one voice can make a difference.
our school district decided that they wouldn't bus from babysitters' homes or daycares anymore b/c people were lying about their school districts and sneaking kids into our schools.
i went to a board of ed meeting and suggested that if they weren't going to bus from those places, they needed to extend the before & after school program to the hours of the local daycare centers - 6:00am until 6:30pm.
guess what? they just posted an update on the district website that they're extending the hours of the before and after school program! AND they're not even increasing the tuition rates for the programs!
i'm stoked b/c it solves our daycare dilemma for when matt is traveling and b/c i know it will help out SO many other families who didn't know what they were going to do with their kiddos!
I really should be working. All of the patient I have tried to call aren't home though. I hate being bored at work. Thank goodness for my iPhone! :giggle
sweet story from this morning: I left my phone at home. :doh ken called me here at work and said he would drop it off. Around eleven I hear a familiar little voice coming around the corner chantin "don't drop mama's phone, carry it with both hands!" too cute! Ken sent Hannah in to my work to give me my phone. Too sweet!
We are back from all the testing E had done this morning. We won't know the complete results for another two weeks. We did learn a few things.
The Good: Elizabeth is doing extremely well with her communication and language skills. This makes me feel better. We will need more details about the sequencing aspect of it, but the speech therapist didn't seem too worried about it when I asked.
The not so good: Elizabeth's motor skills are a little behind. We know after briefly talking to the occupational therapist that they are sending in a "script" to have physical therapy testing done. She apparently is toeing out a little when she walks/runs and they are concerned about her "w" sitting. She also is not quite as coordinated as she should be. My dh has agreed to proceed with it but he is not convinced it's a problem But at least he has agreed to do it. They will decide if she should have occupational therapy from there. It sounds like she will be getting some services from the physical therapy center.
I am sure there is still some more that we will find out in a couple of weeks.
We also found out something interesting about iron. Apparently you can be low on iron and not be anemic. They have been doing studies and children that are in this low category often have trouble sleeping. By giving the Flintstone vitamin with iron it often helps or solves the problem. They also did a study on college women that fell into the low category and when those women took iron their scores and perfomance at school improved. It apparently helps with memory retention.
So that was our day so far. I am tired now and trying to get some energy going so I can go out and do yard work while it's still cool.
all very interesting, please keep updating
it seems we are on parallel journeys and i'd love to have someone else's to follow
I need to take my iron and that's my excuse for forgetting anyone in this post.
Sonya I hope Jo is doing fine and dandy soon.
April that is great that you gave them the solution to the bus and daycare problem! I am glad that it also makes things less complicated for you. I think it will be easier for Em too.
Sara I love the basket idea. I bet after seeing Caroline getting stuff a few times, Mikey might start changing his mind.
As for the hurricane names, don't they get retired once they are used for actual hurricanes?
I just read that they are retired if they are particularily destructive.

I will keep updating. I actually was thinking of you and Cole with all of this. I may be mistaken but I think both E and C were born on July 7. :hmm At any rate I am more than willing to compare notes. You never know what we might learn from each other.
As for your little stay in the city, that sounds fantastic. I was just telling Robert we need to start leaving E overnight once in a while. Maybe we will go visit Sara in Chi town.

Well, I finally invited Henry's friend John-David to come over for dinner.
Of course it was way too last-minute for him to come tonight (although I invited) and his family had dinner plans, but he is going to come Sunday afternoon to play and have dinner.
Henry is very excited.
I should have invited JD over when they were in 2nd grade together.
