Dude.

Major ball of stress here, and feeling your pain on the cash outlay. Right now, we only have A in school... b/c it's from 8:30-3, M-F. If she wants to pick up an after school activity we probably will, but knowing her, she'll want to chill at home (which is fine with us at this age!).

V is going to be doing something every morning w/my mom (I'm going to be working part-time)... music class, little gym, tornado toddlers at our gym. Still need to cover another day.

Uniforms cost me a ton.

What's really freaking me out is the lunch packing thing. IHNI what to put in her lunch... will she really want to eat PB&J every single day?

I'm going to start another thread now...

I want to put Anna in ballet this fall, but I haven't signed her up. I should look into when that starts. I'm sure it will be a pretty penny though!

LMFAO - how old are you???

I am so stressing about what to pack too... I have checked out books from the library for ideas, and checked several websites... and then realized that I'll prob end up with standard PB&J

LMAO-sorry it took me so long to get back to this.  I had to iron my housecoats yesterday and shake my fist at those darn neighborhood hooligans.

I just signed up Kiera for Ballet and Soccer. We are stopping gymnastics.

(She liked it, but, I dont see us being a long time gymnastics family, and it was a good time, with new activities starting, and her class (3 boys and two girls) splitting up into all boys and higher age groups.)

The prices are reasonable, though they add up quickly. I was concerned about overscehduling.  As a dual working family, it doesnt leave us a lot of time to shuttle her around.  Evening classes are dangerous, becuase that is a temper tantrum waiting to happen. More than one sat. class seems like a little much and (total pet peeve of mine) no activity offers Sunday anything! I get that people go to church.  But a lot of people dont.

It worked out for us that since Kiera is watched by her grandmas on M/F, my mom is going to take her to ballet on Friday mornings.  Im so glad she agreed.  Kiera is super excited.  Im jsut sad I wont get to be the one taking her.  I have overcompensated for that by signing up to be her soccer coach.  lol.  I havent heard whether I "got" it yet.  :fingers.

You know, Erin, I am not even sure it is about church per se.  I mean, assuming the same people run/teach the activities, they all need a day off, right?  No one wants to work every single day, or if they have a day job and then run weekend activities, most people wouldn't want to give up both days of their weekends and have no time for their own families, so I would think it is more about that.  And Sunday seems just to be the traditional "day off" for people, which did start because of church (and makes sense, seeing as a lot of people do attend church services of some sort on that day), but I don't think that it is meant to be a religious type of thing, kwim?  I just think it is about everyone having a day of rest.

ITA.  Plus, I'm just the opposite in regards to Sunday activities.  It annoys me to no end when my kids have a dance recital on Sunday.  I can't let them go for religious reasons.  But they schedule it more and more often.  This dance year there are two recitals on Sunday.  Rebecca will be in both of them and I have to opt her out once again.  I know it annoys the teacher, but she does know I won't let my kids do a recital on Sunday.

I applaud you for sticking to that, Alaina. I know it's hard not to give in to what your kids want to do.

Just curious--are you opposed to doing anything not church-related on Sunday? Or do these recitals actually conflict with activities (service, Sunday school) at your church?

I believe in keeping the Sabbath Day holy, meaning that anything that is interferes with worshiping the Lord is not good for the Sabbath.  That includes dance recitals, shopping, watching secular TV or movies, that sort of thing.  Now, I do admit that I tend to be secular in my book reading on Sundays but I am working on that somewhat.

As for conflicts.  Sometimes it does conflict with my church services.  There are two wards that meet in my church building so we have to meet at different times.  So, every other year we meet in the afternoons, which is when they schedule dance recitals for.  It's much easier to tell the dance teacher that my kids can't be in the recital that day because they'll be in church that time than to try to explain my religious beliefs to her.

Luckily after school activities are reasonably priced in our area.  Christopher will be going to preschool 5X week from 9 till 12 and I am thinking about enrolling Christopher in Tae Kwon Do class (twice a week for 1/2 hr) and maybe ice skating (once a week for 45 mins) since he loved it last year.  As for clothes, I also shop off season so we already have plenty of fall and winter clothes and lots of T-shirts for next summer as well blush.gif
