so glad george had a good day and i'm hella jealous about those benes. (i was thinking last night how i wished we lived close still and could do ww together again)
dan's job comes with the added benefit of being told not to inform osha about oil spills in the plant
you are going to ROCK those bio classes and it will be good for your confidence.
Hey!
I was talking to G last night about the WW thing, and admitted how I was reluctant to do it because you weren't here to go with. He looked at me like I was plum crazy, and I dropped it, lol!
Has Dan had any luck with apps?
I'm going to call you in a bit. I have three kids here that I need to get moving.
I spent an hour crying to my therapist about how fat i am last night. i have to do something. i am out.of.control. fattest i've ever been.
dan is sort of in limbo right now. he updated his resume, sent it to a couple of places for the "free" critique ... he has sent his resume to several recruiters but since we haven't decided for sure where we want to be and we have some more time to stay here we're kind of up in the air.
I took Danielle shopping for school clothes yesterday.
I have not spent that much time in a mall in YEARS. We went into the young people stores (some of which I used to frequent), and I could not believe the styles.
Lots of neon and pleather. Seriously, the 80's are back, and they cost $$. We ended up spending most of our time in the very loud and very smelly abercrombie store, where we walked out with fancy sweatpants (called cute butt pants) and a couple of shirts for waaaaay too much money.
I think I may stick to Target shopping from here on out. She just really needed some new duds for her new school.
we went to abercrombie for jake's graduation clothes. we walked out with nothing. the shirt he wanted was $70. for one shirt. no.way.
and yes, that store STINKS.
The sweatpants were on sale for $29. They are usually $39. For sweatpants.
But Dani hates wearing jeans everyday, and she needed some "cool casual pants." Lately she has been exhibiting a strong similarity to Napoleon Dynamite. Saying things like "darnit" and "gosh", while throwing her head forward. I figured the only thing I can do to help her is get her into stylish clothes, get her an awesome stylish haircut, and hope for the best!
She wanted to buy a shirt yesterday that said "I Love Horses" on it. Super cute for 5 years olds, but not so much for 5th graders. I told her we would think about it and come back later.
My sweet girl, all brains and heart, but no style .
So we built this monstrosity of a guinea pig cage in our basement last week, and this week we took Danielle to pick out a new pig for her birthday (she's cute, her name is Snickers).
Oreo, our older pig, has proceeded to exploit and figure out every weakness the new cage has. Luckily, she's nowhere near escaping or getting hurt, but she keeps tearing it apart! The inside is lined in fleece, and she finds anywhere that isn't completely secure, and crawls behind it, then runs around to pull the rest of it out.
She has also pulled the litter pan out of the corner, so it keeps spilling.
Dani is not loving all the cleanup she has to do everyday, but she's good about it. She even has this notebook where she tracks the pigs fav foods (she feeds each a cup of fresh veggies a day). I'm impressed with her dedication!
I think it is by her now (i think). It is right now on course to hit us smack on on Sunday. Blah.
Let's hope for a change in course.
That's scary.
Do you guys typically get affected heavily by those stores? What kinds of things do you do in precaution.
I hope Roxana checks in to let us know how they are doing.
Well, normally, the water here is pretty cold so it stops the storms or pushes it out to the atlantic. This summer the water is warm and the storm is passing between Bermuda and the East Coast and that doesn't do very well for us.
Our last storm was 6 yrs ago, same situation, and it hit as a category 1 with the damage of cat 3. our province is a big block of granite and the trees don't have a very deep root base so we can get a lot of damage from fallen trees.
So, quick answer (finally) who knows. It depends on a lot and we could get hit hard or totally missed.
But as of today, it looks like it is going right over top of us.
Mike's parents have a generator and my mother never loses her power so we have some options if we lose our power for a long time.
A bunch of us at work (senior consultants) got invited for a lunch with the CEO of our company and the CEO of the company that owns us on Wednesday. It is supposedly a lobster lunch.
That can not be good. I'm sure they are mixing lobster with bad news (or at least with interesting news).
In my experience, we did not get bad news over a lobster lunch (or any lunch, really).
When we were treated with a nice lunch, it was usually because 1) we were celebrating something, 2) they wanted us to do something for them, or 3) they wanted to show off to higher ups who were visiting.
Bad news at our company was delivered without fanfare, and usually behind closed doors.
I suspect the same. I also expect this lunch to be followed but big layoffs or something equally dramatic. Do something nice before you do something dramatic.
Kenneth's sister bought SG some flip flops that light up for her birthday. She wore them for three days straight, and they rubbed blisters on the side of her foot. She never complained, but I put them up so her feet could heal.
She decided this morning to put them on again. I said "Sarah Grace, don't those things hurt your feet?"
She said "No, they've been in the closet getting cold all day, so they don't hurt"

I think the last time we went to the beach was in April when we were in California. We usually go to Florida in the winter so we see it then too. Although my dad is moving back up north so I am not sure when we will be getting back to Florida.
It seems everyone here has lots going on. Sonya it was nice to hear that Cheri may be popping back on here. I hope your lunch is a pleasant surprise and the hurricane is no problem.
Toni I am glad all is going well with things there. You will have to keep updating us.
Sara you are way better than me about the coupon clipping and shopping. I am just having a hard time wrapping my brain around all the organization right now.
Jenn and Dorian and anyone else I missed before my coffee has set in
We have a busy morning. We leave soon to go take Elizabeth to the doctor. She has had a bit of a fever on and off the last day and her throat hurts. Last night I got out the flash light and looked at her throat. Her tonsils were humongous. I had Robert look and he said, "OMG, what is that?" Apparently he has never seen swollen tonsils and he doesn't have any.
Two hours after the doctor appointment we have the parent teacher conference at her afternoon preschool. Let's hope we can make it all work on time.
That sounds soooooooooooo good right now!!!! DROOLING!!
And good morning everyone!!
I've been MIA for a few days. As soon as I said, on Monday, that I was ready to get things in order around here (housekeeping, getting Meghan on a schedule, etc), work dropped a huge project on my lap. HUGE.
I work all morning, have swimming lessons at 1, run home for a project meeting at 2:30, then I have to work at night again. THIS SUCKS! But I have to do what I can to keep my job right now. I haven't even told them about being preggers yet. That's next week. EEEKK!
The head of the biology dept called here the other day, because he thought there had been a mixup in my registration. He was confused, because I was registered for Intro to Biochemistry and Basic Anatomy and Physiology. (I have already taken 3 years of biochem, including an independent research semester, and advanced A & P in college).
He had received my transcripts, and said "I don't think I've had anyone with as much biology education as this come through our classes yet."
I had to explain that the school I'm applying for has a rule that prerequisite classes be taken within 5 years of starting the program. He thought it was ridiculous that I have to retake them all-I'm so glad someone agrees with me, lmao!
That said, I'm hoping the refresher is helpful, and not too hard to keep on top of.
sounds like a dumb rule, but i do hope the refresher helps
you may get more out of it now, having worked in the field
remind me what your greater educational/career goals are?
