Yuck. As those of you on FB know, Bennett's been fighting an allergic rash since Sunday. He had terrible hives all over his legs, some on his belly, in his armpits ... poor baby looked miserable but acted pretty normal.

We went several days where he would wake in the morning looking pretty good but within 30-ishminutes he would break out again. Even at naptime he followed the same routine.

Yesterday we cut out full ? dairy products (no cheese, milk or yogurt but he did have a small amount of butter on his waffles)

All day yesterday he had no rash (we gave him 2 doses of benadryl per dr's orders) and so far today no rash and no benadryl.

Would you suggest giving him milk again at some point to see if that's what caused the rash?

He drank regular cow milk formula with no problem and has been on whole cow's milk since about 2 weeks before he turned 1.

Moms of kids with allergies .... help please?

Have you talked to an allergist?

Keegan is allergic to milk and egg.

You will be amazed how many things milk and egg are in. Stuff he was eating and never had a problem with. Also, I had never eliminated anything while nursing (he is still nursing twice a day now) though we are working on weaning completely.

I would have him tested then go from there.

They say the best way for them to outgrow the food allergy is to completely eliminate the trigger from their diet and let their system mature.

Keegan always had a waffle with banana for breakfast I had to cut his waffle. Though I did just buy some mix that is made with wheat and soy I just need to make a batch up.

Keegan is not allergic to Soy so he has been drinking Soy Milk. He likes it just fine.

His allergist said however that milk and soy are 80% related in allergies so he said it was good he was not allergic to that.

He goes again in January and they will retest him.

He has three little ones and his daughter had a dairy allergy and he said she outgrew it by 24 months, I am hoping for the same here, but we will see.

Sorry for the long ramblyness. I guess my first suggestion is to get him to a pediatric allergist then go from there.

We have to carry an epipen for Keegan as well as benedryl.

His allergist said the scariest thing about food allergies is you never know when they will get worse. Keegan always just got hives and rash around where ever the stuff came into contact. He said at any point it could've turned into something much worse.

He also always at processed stuff..yogurt, cheese with no issues until about 3 days before we went he had a cheese quessildila and broke out the 2nd worse I had ever seen him. His allergist said that is what i mean about how you never know when it can go bad.

sara,

i haven't talked to an allergist. this was the first issue we had and i thought maybe it was from strawberry yogurt i had given him on sunday but when the hives kept coming back until yesterday (when we stopped the milk) i was stumped.

i think i will find a pediatric allergist like you said and set up an appointment.

thank you so much for the info...it's really helpful.
