Okay, I wanted to start it's own thread because I am super interested in this. I want to do something to jump start myself into eating healthier. I've never done something like this and figure, why not?

Kristi - would you mind reposting what your cleanse is? It sound like something I could totally do. Well, except the salmon part but I'm guessing I could substitute tilapia, grilled chicken, something like that.

So, anybody else that has done something, I'd love to hear it. I feel like my body is so addicted to carbs, sugar, candy, processed foods that I am having a terrible time trying to eat healthy.

So, I am going to pick up that magazine Kristi and I'd love to hear others' input. Also, if we have enough interested maybe we could do it at the same time and support each other!

I saw Kristi's posts in the daily thread, so I'm interested to hear more. I'd probably be interested in joining.

My sister cleanses all the time - she does the lemonade liquid diet and it (understandably) turns her into a raging censored.gif until she eats.

This sounds a lot more manageable.

the only time ive "cleansed" is prep for colonoscopies and that was a prescription drink and clear liquids. it definitely changes up your body when you go back.

id like to try a cleanse thats not so harsh so please do share.

for about the past decade i do a one week water-only fast, usually the first week of may.

this year i couldnt for obvious reasons :)

the whole process takes about 5 weeks - 2 weeks prep before (gradually eliminating many things like caffeine alcohol, then meats, then dairy, then only eating raw fruit and veg leading up to the fast), 1 week fast, 2 weeks to work up to eating normally again.

it's real hardcore.  and includes stuff like drinking natural salt water the evening before the fast which makes you shit e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g. out for about 4-5 hours after, to warm water enemas nearly daily each fasting day...

but, it is an amazing thing.

for something more do-able, i did gwyneth paltrow's detox in january and LOVED it!  in fact, i often make the teriyaki chicken (like once a week) and i still make the morning smoothies for my breakfast nearly every morning!

very do-able and very filling!  (i hate fish, so i substituted more of the teriyaki chicken in place of it!)

here it is:

I went to her site to check for smoothie recipes. I wonder why it has to be room temperature lemon water?

I've been so fascinated by Megan's cleanse. I love that it gives your stomach, liver, pancreas, etc. a break. Mine I'm sure works overtime constantly with all the crap I eat.

But alas there is no way I could survive it. My willpower is just not strong enough.

I like the cleanse that I read about because it restores nutrients and enzymes while you're doing it. That was appealing to me.

The biggest PITA about it is the food prep. I''m splurging and buying pre-cut fruits and veggies since it's only a 10 day thing.

The article doesn't go into full detail, it only gives ones sample menu and I haven't been able to find much on the internet about it so I've just been going on what I have and eating the same thing everyday. Again it's only 10 days so I can handle that.

Just a warning, your body cannot process all that raw food completely so you won't have a solid poop during the cleanse. I assume that's your body cleansing too.

Who knows, I'm just glad I've stuck with it this long and I feel like I'm putting nothing but really good things into my body right now.

Tomorrow is day 8 and I didn't drink any alcohol until last night. It says you can have 4 oz. of organic wine a night. I may have exceeded that last night.

Only water though, I didn't realize until about day 3 that I couldn't have my Diet DP. Kind of a bummer.

Thanks Kristi. I picked up the magazine and a bunch of fruits, veggies and lean meat. I did get some salmon to try, and I'm also going to do some grilled chicken and tilapia. I'm not entirely sure I can stomach the salmon but I will try it.

ITA that there isn't a ton as far as menus but I am going to just stick with the raw fruits and veggies. I think I am going to do a small piece of grilled chicken with my lunch salad because I don't think I will fill up enough otherwise. Well, I'll try the first day and see.

Thanks for the motivation, I'm excited to see how it goes!

I'm anxious to hear how all of you do!!! I'm with Tracy in that the only cleansing I have done has been preps for procedures, but it definitely does clean things out and you do feel better. I would imagine these things make you feel even better than that since it is just cleansing the digestive tract.

That said, I can't join in on something like that. It could do a lot of damage to my disease and my GIs would never agree to something like that (and I wouldn't do something like that without their approval-I walk a delicate balance as it is).

But I want to hear all about it as you go along!!!

This is the entire idea behind colonoscopy preps.  You drink a full gallon of a saline prep, taking in 8oz/hr, and everything goes.

It is misery.  I have never managed the entire gallon, but it doesn't take that much anyway.

Megan, Bill has asked me several times about this cleanse you do though because he is very interested in doing something like this.  Is there a book or website that tells about it?

I suggest saving the chicken for dinner so that you can fill up and won't be hungry between dinner and bedtime.

The lunch salad is actually pretty filling because of the half of avocado. I also put mushrooms in which fill you up. Then if I'm still hungry I'll eat some almonds or cashews.

Just make sure the nuts are not cooked at all.

Ok, I'll try it without. The store I was at had nasty avocados and I was bummed because I love me some avocados. I didn't realize I could do nuts until after I bought all the other stuff. I think I have some almonds in the cupboard. I'm oddly excited to try this. I have so many tummy problems I am hoping this will help.

im curious to how cleansing could do damage. i really am not looking to visit my gi if i dont have to (but its stating to look inevitable) i though t it might help to get stuff out and start new.

Well, I have to be more specific that a cleanse could do damage for *me.*  You are a different case because your UC is much more mild than my own.  Before my major problems started, I wouldn't have thought twice about doing a cleanse.  But eating a lot of raw/hard foods and anything that is really hard to digest is very hard on people like me-and for me, if I do anything that upsets the system and could potentially cause any loose stools, there is a very high probability that my system will not recover on its own.  That forces me to use more meds for longer stretches, since every time I start and stop meds, they lose their effectiveness some, kwim?

There might be some types of cleanses that would be ok, but in my case, it isn't worth upsetting the balance to do that.  I need a more mild approach-meaning I need to shift my diet slowly.  That isn't to say that healthy eating isn't a good thing for me-but most people would be surprised to know that many of the foods that "normal" people would say are the best for people to eat (lots of raw/hard veggies, high fiber, low fat dairy, etc) are things that many woth moderate to severe UC can not tolerate.  Lots of UC'ers eat only white bread because they can't tolerate the fiber in wheat. (that is not the case for me, thankfully, but I do have to be cautious of my fiber intake)

It just isn't worth the risk for me-but like I said, your case if very different than my own!  (I'd still consider checking with the GI first though)

If you have stomach problems at all I'd talk to your doc before doing something like this.

I thought it might have to do with the raw foods but wasnt sure. I hate my GI with a passion. Though I really dont know why, maybe he just seems to passive IMO but they always say theyll call me in a year and never do. Cest la vie.

Juni, when are you starting this?

I think I'm going to start on Monday. I'm excited. My stomach has been feeling really off lately from all the crap I eat. I need to "reset" my system to get back to relying less on caffeine and sugar and eating enough for someone twice my size.

Is there extra info in the magazine? Is it worth the buy? Or can I just go by what's been posted here?

I'm starting today. Honestly, the magazine doesn't have a lot of extra info but I wanted to get it to keep it and try to keep me motivated. It was pretty cheap so I got it. I'll post more later, I'm about to jump in the shower.

So, I decided to modify it a bit.

I know I *could* do it as far as willpower but it would be hard.

But the thing is, I can't do it right now. It has SO much fiber and pretty much only fiber and well, you know what fiber does!

I am doing back to back home visits at work and I just needed to modify it. :)

But, I am doing a mostly raw foods diet but I am having a little bit more - like a piece of bread during the day as well as some yogurt. I needed something to settle my stomach a bit.

This morning I had a piece of bread and fruit. For lunch I had a big salad but I put grilled chicken with it. Snacks are still fruits, veggies, nuts. Dinner will be lean meat with veggies, salad, etc.
