I would like to hang three of our wedding pics on an empty wall in the living room.
I was thinking of the following formation.
one vertical pic of us
two horizontal pics, one of the whole family, one of the boys.
so it would be the vertical pic on the left, the two horizontal pics on the right, one above the other, and ideally they would align with the top and bottom of the vertical pic, although I'm having trouble figuring out the best size for this to work.
Would you do a canvas prints or framed pics? If framed, I'd probably use black frames and a white or cream mounting. Also, the smallest size canvas I saw on costco is 12x16 so I'd probably only do canvas for the vertical and frames for the other two. Is that weird?
And what size should I do? The horizontals would be probably be 5x7 pics on 8x10 frames. What do I do for the vertical? 11x14? 12x16? 20x30? That seems huge!
I've attached the three pics we want to use.
Sorry. I'm so clueless. I'm not usually into pics of myself so this is new territory. I don't want it to seem like I'm vain hanging giant portraits on my wall. lol.
we don't. by the time we were ready for their portraits Eli was over it and screaming. So it's either that one or just Ethan and Noah.
Room doesn't really have a cohesive look yet. One side is our living space with a couch, tv and fireplace. Other side (where the pictures will be) is a play area for the kids. It's my next big project.
ok so is it weird to do one canvas and then the other two regular prints in frames?
I also saw posterboards online that I could print as a collage. So I could order a really large one with the three pics how I was going to position them.
My neighbor who is a photog has lots of canvas prints up, and they look so good. They are big, and we have small houses, and they look good on her walls, so I think you should get all as canvas prints. I can tell you from experience that 5x7s on the a wall look tiny, even in an 8x10 frame. It sounds huge to do the bigger ones, but it won't look that way. We have some clusters of pics on the wall, and the only one that looks reasonable really is the one that is an 8x10 pic, matted and with a 11x14 frame, and even that doesn't look huge by any stretch.
I would cut out some cardboard or paper in the sizes and tape them to the wall where you think they will go so you can see the sizes. I bet you will be surprised by how the bigger sizes look!!!
Oh, and also-if you decide that I am wrong (what???), I would say do either all one or all the other. I think it would look nicer to have either all canvas or all framed prints. :)
it seems like the smallest canvas is 11x14, which is probably too big for the smaller photos. That would be like insane. but maybe I'll change my mind once I put up the cardboard.
Ok, I typed this all out earlier, then felt like I was being too opinionated, but, Im going to retype. I think you should put the one of the boys on canvaz no smaller than 16 x 20. I think the other two should be matted and framed with the picture at lesat 5x7 and the frame at least 8x10, but even 11x 14 would be great. Then, I would hang them in two seperate groupings, the canvas in one place and on a nearby walll or area the other two. I agree with Melissa that the different background seems to call for a different grouping. I also feel less conspicuous putting big pics of the kids up, than I do of myself, even with the whole family, but that is me. Otherwise, I would make them all small canvasas, like 4x7 and group them together. like a little collage.
Just a heads up, sometimes the prints don't work for a canvas because they have to have a good sized border because they wrap around. I have used Pictureitoncanvas.com with good results (got it off groupon, check groupon and other like companies for online discounts). They also have frequent discounts via email.
I am attaching a random picture we have of a canvas of the kids in the background on a 16x20 canvas. Granted, that wall is large and otherwise bare, but you can see how it seems small even at that size.
No matter what you decide, theywill look stunning, the pics are simply gorgeous!
i LOVE canvas prints and i fo sho commented on erin's when i was at her house. they look awesome.
personally, i vote for 3 canvases hung one vertically (you and D) and 2 horizontally (boys and fam).
i think it would be amazing to have a giant one and then 2 smallish ones. i agree with erin that while 16x20" seems big, when it's hanging, it really isn't. and what i love about the pic of you and D is that while i think you need to blow it up big, it's not 2 giant cheesy smiles - it's an adorable full shot of you 2 with a gorgeous background.
all of that being said, i'd order a 28x40" of the 2 of you and hang it vertically. then next to it, with some space in between, hang 2 17x24" canvases of the other 2.
gallerydirect.com is doing half off (til tomorrow) and they have free shipping.

you could get all 3 from them for $150. love it.
This
can't wait to see!!!
ita with this also.
i used canvaspeople (i think?) and you can get them framed - i love the framed canvas - sometimes the plain canvas seems kind of just not finished to me. i can take a pic if you want.
Dustin and I tried it out last night with cutouts on the wall.
We felt like the 28x40 was too big. We'd either need higher ceilings or a bigger wall. We were going to go with the one us of 17x24 and the other two 13x18 but they seemed just a bit too small.
Costco has pretty good prices and more size options so I think we are going to do that. 1-20x30, 2-16x20s.
We are going to order those three images and if once they are up, we think the background of the boys' pic is weird, we will move it to another wall.
Erin, they have these cool slate options on that site you recommended, which are pretty cool. I might do those as gifts for the grandparents at some point. I wonder how they look in real life.
