Hey girls, I'm launching my photography website! I am so excited to finally be starting this. If any of you have time, would you mind taking a look and giving me any opinions you might have? THANK YOU!
The URL is http://www.crystalkeenphotography.com
Crystal....I had NO idea you were so talented!! The website looks great - very easy to navigate. I think you'll do great! Wishing you tons of great opportunities!!! (and so wish i lived closer ;)
i did notice that it says welcome to the my website on the main page though...
Doh! Thanks for the catch Corey.
Thank you guys all for looking! I am so excited about it. I put an ad in a local listserv here yesterday and I already have my first session booked with a paying customer! I'm psyched!
omg! these are so amazing. I didn't know you were doing this. I wish you lived closer so I could hire you.
Do you think you'll keep it up when/if you move back?
Well, Efe is not on board with me making a career change, but it is what I really want to do and it would give me the flexibility to be with the kids when I need to. So, I'm hoping I can start generating a small income from it and slowly build it. I know I will likely never make the salary I was making before, but I'm hoping I can make enough to convince Efe to let me keep it up instead of going back to work.
Congrats Crystal on pursuing your passion! I know that when my photography business launched it was super exciting and scary too! The one thing I noticed that the tile across every page was your URL. I'd switch it to your studio's name. I also am not familiar with who is hosting your site, but is there a way that your galleries can be a drop down menu? It's picky, but this biz is all about aesthetics and first impressions, and your gallery page just didn't look as neat as I'd like to see it. You have great images and that is truly what is most important!!

Thank you SO much for the critique! I am using a pre-built website, so unfortunately I can't change those things. I agree with you that both of those things are annoying though. I have emailed them about allowing a logo to be used instead of the URL as the heading though, as I think that just looks bad. The rest I will have to live with until I make enough money to make a custom site
Have you thought about using a blog? You can keep the website but it wont be as used as much asthe blog for now until you can earn enough to make a custom site. Just a thought? Blogs are so popular these days.

Thanks for the suggestion, Tiffany. I did notice that all the photographers seem to have blogs, but I can't figure out what to use it for. Do you just post your pictures out there? I guess i need to check some of them out.
Crystal- almost all photographers I know know have blogs and facebook. I can send you a link to a good one here. I love getting his blog pics on facebook. He does primarly weddings. It would give you the idea. It is danstewartphotography.com
Our blog is for photogs and it's only $15 a month. It's through Foto Journal. Blogs help your search engine rating a lot! Much more than your website. Take a peek at ours if you want. It's super easy!! http://buckettphotography.myfotojournal.com
Also, our website is through Photobiz. Love, love, love them! The initial investment is a few hundred dollars, but really much less than a custom build!
THank you guys for the suggestions! VERY helpful to me. I will have to work on starting a blog. I have been so busy actually taking pictures the past few weeks that I haven't had much time, but I need to make time because I know I will need it in the long run.

Stacy, your website and blog are gorgeous! I wish I would've known about photobiz before I created mine, but I guess maybe I will try that when this one expires. I am not happy with quite a few things and I feel like I can't customize it as much as I would like.
