I think this is one of the best ideas in the board. Marcos wrote the first letter. As you know his primary language is spanish but he is VERY good in english so he wanted to do it in english. He colored a drawing and wrote a couple of sentences. very proud of him.
we bought the stamp and place it in the mail.
we received ours and he has very happy to see his name in the envelope. VEry very happy.
we finished our second letter but the truth is i have been running around and have not mail it. he is mad at me for it. he said that his friend is going to think he doesn't care...
I told Mark how smart and creative he was in order to psyche him up to write a letter. He sat right down and wrote it, after asking me for some ideas about what to say.
He was very excited to get a letter back from Kyle too. He really liked the picture of Kyle in it.
Mark also wrote to Sarah Grace but we're still waiting to hear back from her.
Roxy, I agree, one of the best ideas. I have these dreams of Kiera visiting Rachel in NY someday when she is in h.s. lol. We talk about geography, the different weather, etc.
Seriously though, Kiera loves writing her. She comes up with her own topics (My name is Kiera. It is spelled K.i.e.r.a. my mom's name is Erin, my dad is named Kyle. My brother drives me crazy...lol. ) and loves mailing it and getting a letter back. The first couple letters exchanged were quick, but I think we will settle into a nice every now and then, and it is a great way to encourage writing.
Also, Kiera always asks me if I know Rachel and her mom. Of course, I say yes. I think she is way more interested in it because of that.
Kaylin and Holly are at two letters each. Kaylin's newest just arrived so I'm sure she'll write back immediately! She so loves getting mail! Braydon is jealous! Anyone have an 8 year old or so boy who wants a pen pal?
We have written one postcard so far. Lucas did not want to sit down and write a letter, I think because I would always forget to ask him to do it on the weekend and he was OVER doing anything that seemed like it might be more homework during the week. So instead he told me what to write and I typed it up on a photo postcard and mailed it through snapfish.
We haven't gotten a letter back yet, not because one wasn't sent but because our mailman is an idiot and returned it even though everything was perfect with the address.
We got our first letter and that seemed to prompt him to want to participate. He drew a picture all on his own. He was worried about writing the letter and asked if I would write it for him. So, he wrote the "Charlie" and signed his name and I wrote what he dictated for the rest.
It has really spurred interest for Canada in our house!
Yesterday we went on a school fieldtrip and he told the boy sharing our bus seat "hey, I have a pen pal and he lives in Canada!" and the boy looked at me and said "seriously?!" so he thought it was cool too!
Anna is loving it too! Natalie has written two letters, and Anna one...Natalie is waiting on one from us right now. the problem is me because Anna needed me to sit down and help her a bit at first. but it is so cute! she loves getting the letters, she wants to know all about Natalie and where she lives, etc.
And Natalie told her she likes to draw peace signs, and now Anna is all about peace signs, lol.
We need to improve on our speed over here, but thankfully Alicia and Natalie seem to be forgiving on that!
Stacey, Kate is totally jealous too! she can't read yet, lol, but she wants a pen pal too now.
we wrote one and it got returned in the mail even though i had the correct address. i just resent it. connor was thrilled to get one from lucas though!

erin - we got kiera's letter yesterday - rachel was bouncing off the walls and the pic she drew is on our fridge <3 (so cute - kiera drew a pic of her and R underneath a rainbow) - plus the girls did a whole sticker activity with the stickers. so adorable.
R is hilarious - when she read "you spell kiera k.i.e.r.a." R goes "oh no, did i spell it wrong? HAHA. we havent written back yet - i agree, i think a nice now-and-then would be perfect so it doesnt start feeling like a chore. i told rachel that we'd write back this week or next week but told her there was no rush. she also has a lot of questions about where you guys live, etc. she's been learning a ton from this.
C "wrote" to josie too, and josie "wrote" back - i think when we sit down to write back to kiera, we'll write back to josie too. i show her a lot of josie videos though :)

This was a great idea!!
the jealousy thing is why C is writing to josie too - never ends right!??!

btw erin, if we keep this going strong, i bet they'll be email BFFs before we know it!
The other day, I asked Mark if he wanted to write back to his pen pals. He said, "I already did that."
He didn't realize that it was an ongoing process.
I'll have to bribe him (or flatter him like last time).
Lucas is so excited about having a penpal but I have a hard time getting him to write the letter. Instead he draws a picture while he tells me what to write in the letter. Then he signs it.
