Has anyone every had a tax levy? I just logged on to one of my savings accounts and it has a large amount taken out and just says "IRS Levy". I looked it up and it says it can happen if you owe unpaid taxes. I never even received any kind of notice about it, but I'm assuming they didn't know where to reach me while I was out of the country.
Deloitte filed our taxes for us over the past 3 years, so I would be surprised if I owe taxes that I don't know about???

That's happened to my FIL except they owed a lot so they emptied both savings and checking. I don't think they had paid their taxes for 13 years. I hope you get it all straightened out. I guess I would go to irs.gov and find a number and start calling and trying to figure out what is going on.
I once had a creditor put a garnishment on my bank account. I went to a lawyer and he told me to go to the clerk of the court and fill out a form that basically says that the money in the account is exempt (there is a certain amount that is exempt under) and she faxed it to the attorneys. They have a certain number of days to file an appeal and then if they don't it is released and then I jsut went and withdrew the money.
I would definitely talk to an attorney. Good luck!!
Thanks guys. I called the IRS today and found out that apparently we never paid our taxes for 2009!!! Deloitte filed and was supposed to pay them so there must have been some kind of screw up. I'm just glad to know what is going on, and we don't actually owe that much (well, a couple grand) so that is a relief. I kinda started freaking out last night thinking what if I were audited and I owe like a whole crapload of money for some reason.

Thanks, Jennie! It ended up being DH's fault. He talked to the tax guys at work and found out that we were supposed to pay it, not them. It was just a big confusion because they paid our Netherlands taxes so I guess he got confused. Whoops! I'm just glad it is all sorted and taken care of now.
