I feel like I can't keep up with the work and I wonder if I'm normal or messier than most? What are the hardest spots you find to keep up with or places where you fall behind?

My work office is connected to my apartment and is generally a total dump.

When the kids aren't here (were just a grammas), I find we allow things to clutter.  When they are here, we try to pick up before bed.

My house is cleanest right before the babysitter shows up every day, lol.  We'll see how it looks when I don't have an outsider coming to my home everyday next year ;)

That needed to be a multiple select, lol.

I swear I need a big bonfire out back to get rid of all the junk.

i have to say, my house is rarely messy.  i'm MAJORLY anal about messes, and its one of the only things my kids get yelled at about :bag.

their playroom gets completely messy, but i make them clean it every day, and if we're home all day, then i make them clean it at lunchtime too - again, :bag

my bedroom ends up collecting a lot of crap - mainly laundry, but i wont go to bed until all the laundry is done and the dishes are done, and i have baskets galore on my counters which manage the mess.  i am a complete organizational freak.

i am not as good about deep cleaning though.  at all.  i'm more of a surface cleaner.

i chose the kids' rooms. my 2nd choice would have been my room - clean laundry or stuff to be ironed, etc, always collects here.0

i let them get the messiest and we only address it once in a while.

i'm pretty anal about getting things put away. my main floor is always pretty clean. i vacuum the hardwoods and carpets almost every day and wipe down everything (counters, tables, chairs, etc) almost every day. it's pretty rare for me to have dishes in the sink (although there are right now b/c i didn't have time to unload the dw yesterday).

the thing with me is that if i have a to-do list pending, it hangs over my head and haunts me. so i get it done.

I am totally anal about neatness around the house. Right now the girls rooms are a mess from playing all day. It makes me crazy. After dinner Bert is bathing the girls while i spend an hour neatening everything up. That is our routine. I never let it get out of hand, so it never takes more that 30-60 minutes each night to put everything back in it's place. I'll admit- helps having a housekeeper... But the house is neat every morning when she comes. Clothes in hamper, beds made. Each kid does his part. And Bert is a very neat person too- which helps! He spent all day yesterday cooking, and today he mopped the kitchen floor we never have dirty dishes in the kitchen.

My house is very cluttered everywhere (the 7 of us live in 1700 sq. ft.) so it always seems like a mess everywhere to me. I rarely have time to do much cleaning except in the summer. Even then, it doesn't stay clean longer than a couple of days and I just don't have the energy to keep up. My kids do have their jobs, which helps a lot.

I voted the playroom (loft upstairs), there are usually toys everywhere. I'm looking forward to having BOTH boys in school starting this week so I can start to keep a handle on that. Summertime...forget it.

The second area would be the kitchen. I wash dishes by hand and use the dishwasher as the drying rack. We have super hard water here and I just don't like how the dishwasher cleans them and leaves spots. We grew up without a d/w so it's not a big deal to me, just have to get used to having dishes pile up until I get to them, which is usually first thing in the morning or at the end of the day (or both on a "good" day).

I love having an upstairs, because rarely do guests go up there, so I'm not as anal about things up there. Downstairs I try to keep things neat. But again, not during the summertime...that's just too big of a battle to fight, lol! Can't wait to get back in to my cleaning groove not that school is back.

I meant to add that April and Megan couldn't post ;)

seriously, it seems like i can never keep up with the laundry or the clutter. i have found that my latest room re-arrangements have helped things tremendously, ie. the family room now has a cabinet for Ivy's art/toys and she has a deks. The dining room doesn't collect mail/clutter or the wall by the piano doesn't just collect random stuff anymore. I also bought a folding table for the basement so i could fold clothes down there instead of the dining table, which helps keep the messy look down. my living room is about to get alot better too since don will be movign his office upstairs. and then when i get the armoire set up for the foyer, i can start putting our coats and such in there.

Oops!sorry Liz! But as well, I am constantly gutting and organising things - the girls clothes get folded and organized, small and seasonal stuff removed, every 2 months. Toys- cate and claras room gets deep cleaned once a month- all toy pieces put in the right place. I also have a spot in the basement where I rotate toys when not in their room, and keep everything in clear plastic bins with lids. having 3 girls, I don't buy much - Clara is currently really into ceciles American girl and groovy girl stuff and Tims brio train, cate is into Tims duplos and ceciles fisher price loving family dollhouse. Less clutter. Less mess. Easier to keep organized.

no...i was just kidding, megan!!  i love to hear how you keep everything organized.  It really motivates me :)  we just went through ivy's toys a couple weeks ago (I had three huge bags of toys to donate) I also went through her clothes and we also had about three bags (her clothes and baby toys were in the third floor closet and since we are trying to get it ready for don's office, we went through it all - it felt soooo good to get that done!!

I am definitely not a neat freak (used to be though) but my house is usually neat and organized.  I voted that Christopher's toy room is always messy but then I am putting off buying  shelves and bins for toys until we move so it does not take much for them to be all over the floor.

The dishes get put in the dishwasher as soon as we are done eating and as soon as I notice the floors/counters getting dirty, I clean them.  Laundry is also always organized and it never piles up.

When we take clothes off, I put them in the laundry room right away.

I am not very good with organizing my clothes according to seasons but my closet is big enough to fit all of my clothes.  I will probably get to that once Christopher gets back to his school routine next week.

I also hate clutter with passion so I am very good at donating/getting rid of stuff that I don't use/need.

All in all, it is not perfect here but good enough for me I guess.

Honestly, I didn't know how to answer. My house is clean but it's not neat if that makes sense.

I go through things every few days or so--papers that accumulate on the table, stuff on the counters, shoes by the door, but it just comes back.

The messiest rooms are probably the kids rooms. They play right up until bedtime so we don't make them straighten up until the weekend. Their rooms, their problems.

Our room is where we stash stuff when people are over but I'm rarely up there except at bedtime so I don't ever think to go through it.

Sometimes I think if I just had a weekend to myself, I could get really organized. But then when I have a weekend to myself I want to veg. As long as things are clean, I'm ok with the clutter.

The playroom... it is just a room with toys EVERYWHERE. There is no organization and Luc never plays in there, even when his friends are here. I need to break down and get rid of some toys and come up with a better use for the space. Guest room?

This. exactly.  We have a cleaning lady come once a week who does floors and bathrooms and cleans the kitchen.  On a daily basis though, we have some serious clutter. I need a week to just go through and throw stuff out and donate!

Hi ladies,
Haven't been here in forever but thought I'd post and say hi!

And to the original question, I agree that it needed to be a multiple-choice answer.

I voted the office because our home office has turned into an "office/junk-room/put whatever doesn't fit anywhere else in here". I wish I had time to organize it but being that its the one room upstairs in a corner that no guests ever see, its the last priority. ((blush))

My second choice would've been the laundry room because that is where clothes gets stacked if it has not been put away, mail gets accumulated, kids' sports equipment is at, etc.... I try hard to keep it decluttered but it does not last.
