Well, I went in today for bloodwork and my first ultrasound.  They could see the gestational sac, but that is it.  The u/s tech said it looked "a little small".  So now of course I am worried.  I should get my blood results back this afternoon and I will go back in on Monday.  They will draw more blood on Monday and do another ultrasound next Tuesday.

Ok. Stop freaking. It's way too early. You should only see the sac at this point. The fetal pole doesn't come until another week (week 6). Here is another u/s at 4w6d- all you see is the sac. http://www.amazingpregnancy-pictures.com/photopost/weeks-1-to-5/p3994-4w6d.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetal_pole More responses about seeing at 6+weeks.: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090430071746AASN61g http://community.babycenter.com/post/a24947403/when_did_you_see_the_fetal_pole Hope this helps you relax!

Thanks for all the links, Megan. I do feel better now. Plus, my nurse just called and my HCG went from 900 on Monday to 3974 today! With my last miscarriage, my HCG never even went above 900, so I'm starting to feel hopeful that this could actually work.

Those numbers are fantastic, Crystal!!!!

And just so you know, with Kate, I had an u/s at 5 weeks and there was just a sac, but a week and a half later, she was there, heart thumping away.

Also, all of mine measured small in the beginning. That changed as time went on, of course, but in the beginning, they always date me wrong because my babies just seem to measure small to start.

I am so excited things are progressing well!!!!! How were your progesterone levels? Did they check that today?

Thanks for that info, supa. It is good to know that you only saw the sac too and everything was fine. I think I'm just so used to everything falling apart that I can't relax about it. My progesterone went from 16 on Monday to 26 today, so it seems that the extra progesterone dose is working!

Yeah, I'm not sure they should even do u/s this early, honestly. Mine with Kate was to date the pregnancy, but my OB didnt have an u/s machine (small practice) so I was sent elsewhere to do it. The tech, who wasn't supposed to say anything to me about it, told me it was frustrating to her that the docs did this, and that it was perfectly normal at that stage to see only an empty sac. She said she bet that when I came back, it would be a different story, and she was right.

YAY that the progesterone is back up!!! I am praying this is an ultra sticky bean!!!!!

I can understand your caution, but it looks like things are going well. I will continue to send up prayers.

I am wondering why they even did one at this state. I would not be concerned at all. Your hcg and progesterone are doing great.

They do it as soon as HCG is over 1500.  They like to track the growth of the sac, I guess.  I guess it is nice to know that there is a sac there.  With my first miscarriage, they scanned me when I started bleeding and couldn't even find the sac (I was 6 weeks).  But in general, it seems like doing it this early just causes more worry.

Thanks, Sara!  I am happy that my numbers are looking good.  This is the first time I have seen my HCG double, so I'm hoping that is a good sign.

First off, Congrats!!!

Second, both my kids were "too small" at that age. Andrew quickly took off growing and still hasn't stopped. LOL. Alexandra stayed small for much longer. I remember getting my first U/S with Andrew at 5 weeks 4 days, and going to the crying afterwards because they said he was too small and that might mean problems. It was all fine.

I know how it is to m/c, mine were always early, so you are going to worry until you hold that baby in your arms, but please try to hold on to all of our stories, and our great outcomes.

Victoria, thanks for the info.  It is good to hear stories like that!  I will go back in tomorrow and get blood drawn, so I'm hoping it just continues as it should and I will see what happens...

I went in this morning.  I thought I was just going for a blood draw, but they did an ultrasound as well.  The sac looked about twice as big as it did on Thursday, and there was a yolk sac inside this time!  She dated me at 5w0d, which is 2 days behind what I was expecting, but the nurse said that is fine because it all depends on ovulation and implantation.  I'm waiting for the nurse to call me with my blood results.

I go in for another ultrasound on Thursday, and then I am on vacation for a week so no checkups.  I wish my vacation were just a week later so I could see the heartbeat before I left.  But, I don't want to not go on vacation for it.  So, I will probably go back in next Thursday and hopefully there will be a beating heart in there!
