So I was all set to try a OPK this month and I sucked it up and spent $30 for one with 20 strips. I've been reading "Fertility for dummies" and learning a ton!!! Well, I just read that OPKs are not effective for women with PCOS because we have a high LH level all the time so they will always be positive. GREAT, maybe that's why my DR didn't recommend me using one and just told us to try ever other day from days 12-20?
So now I am trying to decide if I should try it anyway or try and return it and get my $ back (although that could be some what embarassing.... and would walmart even take something like that back?!?!)
how long is your cycle normally? i am thinking that he is telling you that date range assuming you have a 8 day cycle. if not, you should extend that.
whe we always did whilt TTC was every 36 hours (ie monday morning, tuesday night, thursday morning, friday night... ) from 10 days from my lmp until 6 days till AF was due.

I don't have a normal cycle. I only have a period if I am on some sort of drug. This is how DR has me set up.
I take Provera 2x a day for 7 days About a week later I start AF Then on day 5 of my cycle I start clomid and mucinex. I take Clomid for 5 days and mucinex for 15. On day 12-20 we do "the baby dance" every other day. 2 weeks later I POS and if I'm not knocked up I start over with the provera. So the whole process takes almost a month and a half.
I decided to just give them a try. What the heck, they might just work. If they don't it's just more practice with peeing in a cup. LOL
Of course when I open up the box and read the instructions it says that clomid can change the results... which I'm taking. Why can't they put that little bit of info on the OUTSIDE of the box?
There are a few women on the tcoyf board where I have been posting who have PCOS, and one has had issues with OPKs as well. But recently, she did O during a cycle, and her OPKs went from being pretty + to clearly + and then to almost stark white, and her O was confirmed with temps.
That said, IDT she uses them regularly for that very reason.
