musings of the overpaid gub'ment employee

so i only recently heard about this govt shutdown. (i don't miss cable, but i certainly have not stayed current on news since i got rid of it).  of course medical is exempt from this.  however, it turns out that during a furlough the hospital people have to work, but you don't get paid.  and of course you can't not work because its pt abandonment.  but clinics are non essential so they would be closed, which means we would be super busy and if folks aren't getting paid there will fo sho be some call ins.  total cluster.

idk if that will happen and if it does there is nothing i can do.  but it really does chap my ass that they took money away from people with jobs (the annual raises)because they are perceived as overpaid and lazy.  i'd argue that any employment is less lazy than NOT working.

its crazy to me how i have this job (where i am paid substantially less than i would be in the private sector) and my job is to tend to people and explain how to take care of themselves and their children, to comfort them and to recognize and treat life threatening illnesses. like how i'm supposed to use some combination of my spidey sense and clinical acumen to look at you and in under 15 seconds decide you look like you're having a heart attack and then we swiftly act upon this and ensure your timely arrival at the cath lab (if you are in fact having a heart attack) so the doctor can get the proper blood flow to your heart? and for this I- my coworkers and I- are paid too much??? wtf dude. w.t.f.

i'm really never going to understand how the hell my president just took money away from me- atleast in this way.  if i'm so damn important that i have to work for free then you can't say i'm "overpaid"

and you know, because i work for the govt i can absolutely see why people feel that govt employees are lazy and overpaid.  maybe because a menial job pays more if you are a govt employee.  'skilled' labor does not.  but its incredibly unfair to try to save money on the backs of people that are gainfully employed.  i want obama to prove to me that all govt workers are overpaid or that even the majority of them are.  i have learned that bureacracies live and breathe by meetings and The Numbers.  so show me the numbers.  show me how you can measure the productivity of millions of employees.

and yes, one could argue that there are other ways they could take the money.  say you raise taxes.  but then they are still arbitrarily punishing a group of people based on a perception.

i need to look up whose idea this was and send them lawful hate mail.

i guess i had been keeping that in. so, rant over.
