if a store doubles coupons up to 99 cents, does that mean they will double a coupon up to 99 cents (for example, a 50 cent coupon doubles to $1.00) or does it mean that the total coupon amount with a double can't be more than 99 cents, ie. 49 cents doubles to 98 cents?
i hope i am making sense ;)

all of my doubling stores double any mf qs up to a dollar. so a .99 coupon would be worth $1.98, but a $1 q would only be worth the $1.
what grocery store is it? if it is in the acme chain, like my shaws is, it is most likely the same policy we have.
Hey corey...we are in pittsburgh and we were at the giant eagle store last night. i saw a sign that said they double up to 99 cents. You also have to have a shoppers card to get the sale prices. (last night the lady let me have the courtesy card). I didn't have any coupons with me but when i came home, i tried to find a match up blog but the one i found didn't mentioin the coupon doubling. (I was specifically thinking of the swiss miss hot - it is on sale for $1 and i have 50 cents coupons - so wouldn't that be free?)
if that's a store's phrasing, it usually means the face value of the coupon.
when i lived in NJ, acme advertised they "doubled coupons up to 99c." so a 75c coupon was worth $1.50.
too bad we don't have any doublers like that out here in CO. boo!
the stores that double in st. louis only double to 40 cents and their prices are usually higher than the other grocery store (shop n save) so unless it is a really good deal, i don't shop there for very much. although they often have $1 prices on stuff which if i have a double coupon it makes it 20 cents.

giant is in the same chain as stop and shop, which doubles like i said, so i'd assume that giant would be the same (especially since its the exact same way the policy is worded on the sign here). yes, the hot choc. would be free. the only thing that chain won't do is give overage. like if an item is 1 and you have a .75 off q it will double up to the dollar to allow it to be free, but no .50 overage.
