sensitive skin help

Hi, all.

Katelyn's skin isn't looking too good lately.  It's really dry and kinda splotchy with some tiny red bumps, mostly on her belly and sides but there are some patches on the back of her upper arms and looks like her back is starting to get this way too.

I've not dealt with sensitive skin issues, so I'm in need of some suggestions on what to do for her.  I haven't switched up anything (soap, laundry detergent, etc) lately.  The doctor at her checkup said it just seems dry and to use a different lotion other than baby lotion.  So I bought some Eucerin and have been using that the past few days, making sure to lotion her up at least twice a day.

Is there anything else I can try or do differently?

Thanks!

Aveeno was what worked for my boys. They've always had sensitive skin but the worst when they were babies. The aveeno body wash and the lotion worked great. I can't remember the exact name but the lotion with the navy blue lid/top (vs. the powder blue color) worked wonderfully.

Jo, I have had lots of trouble with Anna's skin but have gotten excellent relief with the Vanicream line.  You can order it online or get it at the counter at the pharmacy (they sell it without an rx).   I think you would really like this stuff if you try it.  It's chemical free which is a huge plus to me.

Good luck and sorry to hear she is having issues.

I think the really hard thing about sensitive skin is that the same thing doesn't work for diff people.

Josie has terribly dry skin in winter.

Aveeno was horrible for both of us. Instant rash.

Claifornia baby cream was good, eucerin is the best (but it has polyparubums that I'm trying to avoid),

We just bought arbonne cream and oil. $$$$

I'm already freaking out - I tried it on my arm (excema) and it went crazy itchy. We tend to react the same way.

She's a bit itchy still so I'm really hoping it's going to work, otherwise, 40$ down the drain.

Sunscreen wise, she's horrible. Only california baby and I can't get it in canada.

Good luck!

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! We have been through almost every lotion with Meghan. Abby's starting to show signs too.

ITA w/ Sonya that everyone reacts differently to various brands. We have some luck with California Baby and Arbonne. Aveeno products give her a rash. I would start with Aveeno if you have any around. The rest of the family can use the rest if she reacts. Then i'd try California Baby or Vanicream. Arbonne is $$ and you need to order it from a rep so I'd leave that for last.

I would drop the J&J products if you are using them. I've known so many kids that have had a reaction.

I hope you find something soon that works and that it isn't too bad! Sensitive skin sucks :(

SONYA- if the Arbonne lotion doesn't work for Josie, I'll buy it off of you in Boston. We don't really use the oil though. I'm going to try it again and then I'll let you know if I would take that too. And let me know if you want me to pick up any C.B products for you! Sales are rare but I'll keep my eyes open. It's the ONLY sunscreen Meghan can use too (the stick).

thank you, everyone!

I used Aveeno baby wash for her bath today and will give the Aveeno lotion a try first.

I'll definitely keep the Vanicream on my list if things don't improve.

So, this is going to sound kinda weird, but I was at the grocery store last week with Victoria, who had super dry, irritated, red skin from wiping (and not wiping) her runny nose.

There was a guy there sampling ostrich oil, as well as some paraben-free lotions.

I put the ostrich oil on her skin, and it was amazing how quickly it moisturized and reduced the redness.

I guess the oil is essentially melted fat. (Gross.) And it smells like it. (Grosser.)

But it worked... so if you get desperate, it might be worth a shot!

HTH!

What works for Owen is the Arbonne baby wash. I will say a few months ago I got Suave Free it is super cheap and it worked fine so once we are out of Arbonne we are going to test it again.

I use the Walmart brand of Eucerin cream on his skin each night after a bath and then he has Triamcinolone for his bad spots.
